The Production Health & Safety Manager at Netflix will support the health and safety function within Original Productions, focusing on the UCAN region. Responsibilities include providing end-to-end safety support for self-managed and partner-managed productions, cultivating a positive safety culture, developing cross-functional relationships, and advising productions on implementing safety guidelines. This role involves travel to production facilities, attending meetings, mitigating safety concerns, evaluating production materials for risks, and responding to emergencies. The ideal candidate will have 5-7 years of experience in health and safety and film/television production, knowledge of relevant regulations, and excellent communication skills.

 The Production Health and Safety Manager will support our health & safety function within Netflix's Original Productions.  This role will be a part of a high-impact team of health and safety professionals supporting Netflix Production throughout the UCAN region across all production verticals, live, and events.  You will play a critical role in implementing the Production Health and Safety program for our self-managed and partner-managed productions.  Based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, this role reports to the Senior Production Health and Safety Manager UCAN.

As part of the Content Risk Management team, success means you can effectively minimize harm and disruption, enable smart risk-taking, and meet our regulatory compliance/ethical requirements.  You will be exceptional at engagement on risk based topics with creative business leaders.  You will have a passion for cultivating a safety culture and working collaboratively with cross functional teams. 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide end-to-end Safety (Lead) support for UCAN self-managed and/or partner-managed productions, empowering risk ownership and informed decision making.

  • Cultivate a positive and effective safety culture throughout Netflix production workplaces.

  • Develop key cross-functional relationships with the Netflix Studio Management Services (SMS) team as well as ensuring cohesion across the site's safety and security functions.

  • Industry and community outreach to support the continued development and enhancement of local talent.

  • Advise productions regarding the implementation of the Production Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) and production safety guidelines.

  • Travel to production facilities and locations as required.

  • Attend production meetings, tech scouts, and site surveys as required.

  • Mitigate safety concerns by working directly with Production Executives, Producers, Unit Production Managers, Heads of Department, and Crew as needed.

  • Evaluate production concepts, scripts, storyboards, and other materials for health and safety risks.

  • Evaluate production sets, stages, and locations to help identify health and safety issues and provide advice to reduce risk.

  • Review, facilitate or assist in the preparation of Risk Assessments, Emergency Action Plans, and Contingency Plans related to weather and other hazards.

  • Identify the need for internal safety support or external services including environmental, industrial hygiene, and engineering services.

  • Assist with facilitating production employee health and safety training as needed.

  • Recommend corrective actions and assist productions in their implementation.

  • Play a key role in supporting the response to and investigation of production emergencies and serious incidents/accidents.

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with industry safety organizations, representatives, and governmental regulatory agencies as appropriate.

  • Report and analyze the performance of productions, including sharing impactful, actionable insights.

Ability To

  • Determine the applicable regulations in jurisdictions where production is filming.

  • Quickly recognize and resolve various production safety challenges that arise during the course of normal production activities.

  • Interact with regulatory agencies, company management, productions, and studio personnel.

  • Work independently without direct management supervision.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 - 7 years of combined experience in health and safety, film and television production. 

  • Thorough understanding of motion picture and episodic production processes including organizational structure, terminology, equipment, construction methods, stunts, and special effects techniques, etc.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health and Safety, Environmental Studies, Physical Sciences or related major a plus, and/or equivalent work experience.

  • Knowledge of applicable federal, regional, and local Environmental, Health & Safety regulations (i.e. OSHA, NM OSHA, EPA, etc.)

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification is a plus.

  • Experience managing programs and projects is a plus.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Able to be discreet and handle confidential information.

  • Proficiency in Google Suite applications.

Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $50,000 - $245,000.
