Job Description

As a Senior 3D Artist at Coffee Stain Studios, you'll be responsible for creating high-quality 3D assets (models, materials, textures) for the game Satisfactory, aligning with the game's artistic vision. This involves close collaboration with design and tech teams. Tasks include modeling, sculpting, texturing organic and hard-surface meshes, using Unreal Engine for asset setup, providing guidance to team members, collaborating across departments, optimizing assets, and staying current with industry standards. You will contribute significantly to the game's visual identity through environments, machinery, and creatures, requiring adaptability and creative problem-solving.
Must have:
  • 3+ years game industry experience
  • Strong 3D portfolio
  • Proficient in Blender, ZBrush, Substance Painter
  • Understanding of game dev pipelines
  • In-engine optimization knowledge
  • Keen eye for detail and composition
  • Concept art interpretation skills
  • Teamwork and communication skills
Good to have:
  • Real-time vegetation asset creation
  • Unreal Engine 5 experience
  • Procedural content creation (Substance Designer, Blender Geometry Nodes)

About us

Coffee Stain Studios is the largest team under the Coffee Stain brand, where our journey began back in 2010. We've recently launched Satisfactory 1.0 after a highly successful Early Access period, with over 6 million copies sold as of today.

3D Artist Role Description 

We are looking for a Senior 3D Artist with proficiency in Environment Art to join our team! As part of the Art team, you will create high-quality models, materials, and textures, ensuring they align with the game’s artistic vision. You will collaborate closely with the design and tech departments, blending creativity and technical expertise to shape the world of Satisfactory.

Our 3D artists take on a variety of tasks without strict specialization, but we encourage them to lean into their strengths and develop deeper expertise in areas they excel at. While working on our game, you’ll help define its visual identity with environments, machinery, creatures, and more. We value adaptability and creative problem-solving, empowering our artists to push visual boundaries and craft an engaging and visually stunning experience.

These are things you’ll do on the job

  • Model, sculpt and texture meshes, both organic and hard surface according to concepts, references and art direction.
  • Work closely with Art Director, Lead Artist and Tech Art to maintain artistic consistency and vision for the game
  • Use Unreal Engine to preview and setup your work to make it ready for implementation.
  • Provide experienced guidance and feedback to your team members
  • Collaborate with fellow artists and other departments such as tech and design
  • Maintain and improve production and optimization pipelines
  • Continue to refine artistic skills and stay up to date with the industry news and standards 

Should-haves 

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in the gaming industry 
  • A strong portfolio featuring best examples of your 3D work
  • High level of proficiency in Blender (or any other modelling software), ZBrush and Substance Painter.
  • Great understanding of modern pipelines and requirements for game development.
  • A good understanding of in-engine art asset optimization.
  • A keen eye for shape, colour, composition and details. 
  • Ability to interpret and expand on concept art, filling in details and making creative decisions while staying true to the intended vision.
  • A creative, proactive and motivated mindset.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills. 
  • Good verbal and written English.

Nice-to-haves  

  • Have experience creating real-time vegetation assets.
  • Experience working with Unreal Engine 5.
  • Experience with procedural content creation packages is a plus (like Substance Designer, Blender Geometry Nodes, etc). 
  • Traditional art skills like drawing, painting or sculpting.
  • Have a keen interest in playing games and game development beyond just art 


Practical info

The position is a permanent, full-time, 40 hours per week job on-site.

You will spend most of your worktime at our office on Hertig Johans gata in Skövde. Working from home is ok on occasion.

At our office we have a casual workplace environment including bicycle parking, our own amazing in-office gym, game- and chill-out zones and more. There are also plenty of in-office hangouts and parties.

You’ll be working with a friendly team that consists of both Swedish and International people. We get plenty of self-development opportunities; tutorials, creative time, participation in various industry conferences and events, and moments to just pick each other's brains.

Our office is constantly supplied with breakfast, snacks, fruit, tea and coffee to keep your energy up. There’s a kitchen which you may use at your convenience.

Coffee Stain Studios is part of a family of several studios, creating a network of over a hundred talented game creators. We talk, throw parties, and support each other professionally.
