Job Description

The Software Engineering Manager II, Mobile (iOS), Core at Google will lead and manage a team of engineers, focusing on iOS application development and leveraging GenAI to combat abuse across Google's products. Responsibilities include setting team priorities, aligning strategies across teams, providing performance feedback and coaching, developing technical roadmaps, designing and vetting systems, reviewing code, and contributing to initiatives driving OKRs. This role requires strong organizational, communication, and strategic thinking skills, along with the ability to navigate ambiguity. The position is pivotal in shaping the future of online safety at Google and involves collaboration with teams in the US and Europe. The Core team's work is crucial for maintaining Google's flagship products' technical foundation and driving innovation.

Must have:

8+ years software development experience
3+ years technical leadership
2+ years people management
3+ years iOS development experience
Strong communication & organizational skills
Technical roadmap development
Code review & feedback
Project management

Good to have:

Master's degree in CS or related field
Experience in complex organizations
Backend coding (Go, Rust, Java)
ML model coding (Python)

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
3 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.
3 years of experience with iOS application development.

Preferred qualifications:

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
Experience in backend coding languages such as GOLang, Rust, or Java.
Experience in ML model coding languages (e.g., Python).

You will build trust with executive leadership, and play a crucial role in shaping the future of online safety.

Responsibilities

Set and communicate team priorities that support the broader organization's goals. Align strategy, processes, and decision-making across teams.
Set expectations based on the level and role aligned to the organization's goals. Meet regularly to discuss performance and development and provide feedback and coaching.
Develop the mid-term technical goals and roadmap within the scope of (often multiple) teams. Evolve the roadmap to meet anticipated future requirements and infrastructure needs.
Design, guide and vet systems designs within the scope of the broader area, and write product or system development code to solve ambiguous problems.
Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
