Job Description

As a Technical Artist at Mayhem Studios, you'll bridge the gap between art and technology. Responsibilities include developing and optimizing art pipelines within Unreal Engine, collaborating with Art, Design, and Engineering teams, and ensuring high-quality assets while maintaining performance. You will troubleshoot technical challenges, provide technical guidance to the art team, develop tools and automation processes, identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, and contribute to R&D efforts. Experience with GPU render pipelines, asset optimization, Blueprints, mobile game development, shaders, and optimization tools is essential.

About the role :

Job Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India

As a Technical Artist, you will be a key player in shaping the artistic and technical bridge within our team. Your role will involve developing and refining the art pipelines, ensuring the seamless integration of high-quality assets into the Unreal Engine while optimizing for performance.


What will you do:

  • Collaborate closely with Art, Design, and Engineering teams to architect, implement, and optimize art pipelines, tools, and workflows within Unreal Engine.
  • Identify and address technical challenges throughout the production lifecycle, ensuring that artistic vision is delivered without compromising performance.
  • Development and optimization of pipelines, tools, and features to ensure the highest quality visual output with minimal impact on performance.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the Art team, removing technical roadblocks and acting as a liaison between Art and Engineering.
  • Develop tools and automation processes to streamline asset integration, shader development, and overall workflow efficiency.
  • Proactively identify bottlenecks and performance issues, working closely with the team to provide optimization strategies that maintain high-quality visuals.


What are we looking for:

  • 2-5 years of game development experience
  • Deep understanding of GPU Render Pipeline, including proficiency in reading GPU Frame Captures and CPU Trace files.
  • Extensive experience in asset optimization workflows and performance profiling.
  • Knowledge of Blueprints
  • Experience with mobile game development and optimization for mobile platforms
  • Experience in Shaders, maintaining shader pipelines, including node-based material workflows, HLSL/GLSL, with advanced optimization techniques.
  • Proven experience building and maintaining optimization tools within Unreal Engine.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to lead technical R&D efforts.
  • Experience with VFX and animation pipeline optimization.


Nice to have:

  • Proficiency in C++ and Python for creating custom tools and automating processes
  • Experience in AAA games
  • Experience with rigging principles, skinning, and state machines, with a focus on creating animator-friendly rigs.
