Rockstar Toronto seeks a UI Tools Programmer to develop and maintain tools for UI developers. Responsibilities include creating new tools and updating existing ones to streamline UI content creation, providing time estimates and technical forecasts, delivering high-quality, well-tested code, and collaborating with the team to review code and ensure quality standards are met. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of experience in game development, expertise in C# and C++, and familiarity with various code architectures, design patterns (including OOP, MVVM, and SOLID), UI development challenges, and common development tools (Jira, Perforce).
Must have:
  • 3+ years game dev experience
  • Expert in C# and high-level design patterns
  • Adept at C++ and open-source libraries
  • Familiar with UI development challenges
  • Proficient in OOP, MVVM, SOLID programming
  • Experience with bug tracking and version control
Good to have:
  • Familiarity with Rockstar products
  • AAA console title experience
  • Experience delivering high-level software tools

Rockstar Toronto is on the lookout for talented UI Tools Programmer who possesses a passion for delivering world class user interfaces that help form the connection between the player and our games.

This is a full-time, in-office position based out of Rockstar’s unique game development studio in Oakville, ON. 

WHAT WE DO

  • The UI Team at Rockstar is a diverse, multinational team made up of programmers and developers from across our studios.
  • We work together, across various time zones, with our industry-leading proprietary RAGE engine to produce the vital UI features for our games and our players.
  • We develop our own UI tools, editors and technologies to let our UI developers realize the creative vision of our projects while constantly striving for excellence to produce the seamless UI experience our millions of players expect.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • As a UI tools programmer, you will provide new tools and updates to existing tools to facilitate the UI Developers in creating the best UI content in a timely manner.
  • Working with your lead, you will be responsible for tool feature deliverables and sets of tasks to support other tool feature areas.
  • You will provide time estimates and technical issue forecasting for all work which you then assume full responsibility for.
  • Giving frequent communication updates to your lead and involving them in any discussions that arise from your tasks, you will deliver high quality, well-tested, and performant code to the time requirements agreed upon.
  • Working with the other UI tool team members, you will be asked to review other programmer’s code and must ensure your feedback means it meets the expected quality levels.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years combined industry experience at other game development studios
  • A degree in Software Engineering, Mathematics or Computer Science

SKILLS

  • An expert in C# and high-level design patterns
  • Adept at C++, must be able to understand proprietary open-source C++ library usage
  • Comfortable with a wide range of code architectures including OOP design patterns, MVVM and SOLID programming
  • Familiarity with MVVM software design. Especially WPF
  • Fully experienced with the programming challenges related to UI development
  • Familiar with bug tracking workflows (ex. JIRA)
  • Familiar with version control software (ex. Perforce)
  • Familiar with the tools and SDKs of all major consoles
  • Strong debugging and deductive skills

PLUSES

Please note that these are desirable skills and are not required to apply for the position.

  • In-depth familiarity with Rockstar products
  • Ideally 1+ published AAA console titles or 2+ years AAA development experience
  • Developed and delivered high level software tools to internal clients, such as a game editor application for peers
