The Associate Director, Manufacturing will be responsible for planning and directing the policies required to manufacture products according to company standards. This includes coordinating and organizing various processes to ensure the factory operates efficiently. The role involves managing manufacturing groups to ensure safety, product quality, and customer satisfaction. Key responsibilities include leading manufacturing to eliminate customer backorders, developing team members, and ensuring adherence to departmental budgets. The role also involves working with other departments to meet customer needs and preparing budgets and reports.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in technical field with 10+ years experience.
  • Familiarity with LEAN manufacturing concepts is required.
  • Knowledge of instrument production and related business activity.
Good to have:
  • Experience in an FDA or ISO regulated environment.
  • 3+ years of people management experience.

Job Details

Position Summary & Responsibilities:

The normal working hours for this role are anticipated to be 6:00am - 2:30pm Monday - Friday. Plan and direct the policies necessary to manufacture product per company requirements. Coordinate and organize 5S, Kaizan, autonomous teams and auto quality processes to ensure the factory uses these principals on an ongoing basis. Structure personnel for the most efficient organization using cellular concepts.  Make sure customer demand is met and the quality policy is implemented.  Maintain morale of the work force and addresses personnel issues.  Interface with other departments to ensure product flow is consistent and backorders are avoided. Responsible for Group Leads, Team Leads, Technicians and Assemblers in these areas.

  • Manage the manufacturing groups to ensure safe, quality product, and customer satisfaction. 
  • Manage and provide technical expertise to justify and implement cost improvement projects in Operations. 
  • Develop Associate Manager, Group Leads and frontline team members. 
  • Responsible for hiring and recruiting proficient personnel to develop an efficient manufacturing team. 
  • Ensure adherence to Departmental budgets. 
  • Lead manufacturing to eliminate customer backorders and to build a quality product while maintaining morale.
  • Practical LEAN manufacturing experience.
  • Responsible for decision-making including employment, disciplinary action, expense authorization, performance appraisals, salary adjustments and setting priorities.
  • Align team members into cohesive teams to create a unified manufacturing operation throughout the various instrument cells.
  • Make certain manufacturing conforms to budgetary issues and cost.
  • Responsible for department organization, standards and goals.
  • Work with System Engineering to solve problems and maintain flow of production.
  • Work with other departments to ensure customer needs are met including Supply Chain, Engineering, Accounting, and Marketing.
  • Prepare and maintain budgets and reports.  Responsible for approximately $60 million COG.

Education, Skills, & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree, in a technical field preferred, with 10+ years of experience in manufacturing operations. Experience in an FDA or ISO regulated environment is preferred. 
    • In lieu of a degree, a High School Diploma/GED with 15+ years of experience in manufacturing operations is also accepted. 
  • Familiarity with LEAN manufacturing concepts is required.
  • 3+ years of people management experience is highly desired with a track record of development
  • Experience in an FDA or ISO regulated environment is preferred
  • Must possess thorough knowledge of instrument production and related business activity including the development and deployment of manufacturing systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements (FDA, ISO, OSHA, etc.) is required.
  • Requires demonstrated strengths in leadership, interpersonal skills, project management, creative thinking, problem solving, and communication.
