The role involves running tenders, setting up performance measurement mechanisms, and executing cost-saving projects. Additionally, the manager will monitor market news, maintain contracts, and collaborate with sustainability and quality departments. The role will require the candidate to be a gate keeper on the VGU maintenance and control
Must have:
  • 10+ years experience in international logistics/supply chain.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
Good to have:
  • Knowledge in game theory
  • Experience in change management
  • Experience in lean warehousing or six sigma
  • Process improvement techniques based on Lean Manufacturing principles

Job Description

The purposes of this position are

The main purpose of a Commodity Manager (Mainstream) is to be responsible for Air/ Ocean/Parcel Commodities for F&D in IMS,  to ensure Air/Ocean/Parcel/Rail service providers are selected and maintained in Asia markets to meet the business objectives in terms on both costing and operations performance to meet customer needs, while at the same time ensure the compliance to the procurement and contract management policy.

Your role:

  • Develop and Review the Air/Ocean/Parcel/Rail commodity strategy with stakeholders , execute with defined action plan, and input as part of the Commodity Strategy Development (CSD)  in Asia markets including Greater China, Japan/Korea, ASEAN countries /ANZ / Indian subcontinents
  • Negotiate, Select and maintain the Air/ Ocean/Parcel/Rail suppliers to meet the business requirements of Sectors in Asia markets including Greater China, Japan/Korea, ASEAN countries /ANZ / Indian subcontinents
  • Independently run a tender/bidding to select suitable service providers who can meet the operations requirements of business
  • Together with supply chain operations, set up and maintain the performance measurement mechanism on supplier performance measurement
  • Manage supplier relations to make sure supplier collaboration in place to meet the long-term goal of Sectors
  • Establish an efficient and effective communication / escalation channel between service providers and business units
  • Define and execute cost savings projects on site / countries when there is opportunities
  • Execute global initiated programs (e.g. booster/DfX) to local level when there is any
  • Closely follow the supplier market news to make sure company is reacting fast enough to avoid undesirable situation
  • Follow strictly on the contract management policy to ensure ICS compliance.
  • Maintain all contracts in S2C (Ariba) to meet the contract coverage KPI.
  • Work closely with Sustainability and Quality departments to ensure all warehouse and transport suppliers are in compliance with Sustainability and Quality
  • Responsible for keeping business cycle maintained through PMT platform
  • Acting as a gate keeper on the VGU maintenance and control


You're the right fit if:

  • Education : Master or Bachelor degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management or Business Administration
  • Experience 10 plus years experience in international logistics / supply chain functions in particular related to international freight forwarding in Air/ Ocean/Parcel/ Rail commodity 
  • Competency and Skills
  • Excellent negotiation skill, and knowledge in game theory will be an advantage
  • Sound and practical knowledge of how supply chains work and be able to assess the cost drivers of logistics processes
  • Change management experience gained e.g. in lean warehousing or six sigma
  • Process improvement techniques based on Lean Manufacturing principles will be a plus
  • Experience in dealing and working with senior management level
  • Extensive networks in logistics industry, with focus on Air/Ocean/Parcel/Rail
  • Excellent planning, meeting timeline, and presentation skills
  • Travel Frequency – Travel if needed
