About the Role
The role of Commissioning Editor is to research, commission and oversee the development of appropriate, quality print and digital Bachillerato content from concept development through to publication as specified in the Publishing Plan. The role involves commissioning authors and contributors, and working closely with the Global Market Research team, Spain Secondary Portfolio Manager and the CPMO Secondary team to support the development of strong concepts that showcase the Customer Value Proposition.
Role Responsibilities
Segment strategy and publishing planning
Attend positioning meetings and maintain awareness of company strategy and changes following market update meetings to support development of the bachillerato segment.
Concept development
Carry out school visits and observations to inform concept development and product differentiation in line with the publishing plan and to ensure projects meets the bachillerato publishing vision.
Monitor developments in the University Entrance Exam to develop materials which comply with the latest updates.
Content development
Commission and brief authors and contributors for the development of material, ensuring content meets the project specification and the quality expectations of the course.
Understand segment digital requirements and support the packager to develop digital products ensuring they fulfil the needs of the segment and concept.
Liaise with media and design outlets directly or via the packager to deliver excellent media content.
Budget/Financial/Resource Responsibility
Understand the Investment Approval process, and feed into IA documentation as required
Demonstrate full awareness of the cost and schedule implications of all publishing processes.
Work with the Project Manager to plan external resource for timely delivery in line with the budget.
Packager Management
Support with packager selection according to the needs of the project, support project planning effectively and oversee the packager’s work ensuring quality expectations are met.
Personal development
Keep up to date on ELT/EFL trends and issues, participate in in-house/external training sessions, maintain and expand network of industry contacts to support publication.
Experience, Skills & Qualifications
Essential
Educated to degree level or equivalent.
Formal ELT/TEFL qualification & demonstrable ELT publishing experience at project leadership level..
Knowledge of ELT markets and Spain Secondary and Bachillerato segments.
Demonstrable ELT publishing experience at project leadership level
Excellent written English.
An ability to work to tight deadlines and to manage numerous tasks.
Understanding of publishing technologies.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Desirable
Knowledge of a second language.
A working understanding of content management systems.
Experience of working with a range of new media.
Experience of in-market research.
Excellent team-working and organisational skills.
