Job Description

The Contract Specialist, Deployment, Energy, based in Melbourne, Australia, will support APAC project managers in managing risks and obligations in upstream and downstream contracts during the deployment phase of utility BESS projects. Responsibilities include day-to-day administration of head contracts and subcontracts, ensuring contractual compliance; handling commercial aspects like EOTs, variations, payments, and compliance; identifying program risks and opportunities; developing strong relationships with stakeholders; preparing monthly/quarterly reports; leading contract lessons learned; resolving contractual issues; and providing strategic/tactical guidance to project managers. The role requires managing multiple projects, working independently and collaboratively, and demonstrating strong communication and negotiation skills.
Must have:
  • 3+ years' experience in commercial/contracts roles within renewable energy

What to Expect
The Contracts Specialist is responsible for supporting Asia-Pacific (APAC) project managers with managing the risks and obligations in the upstream and downstream contracts during the deployment phase of utility BESS projects.

With a strong and confident understanding of contractual mechanisms, the Contracts Specialist will be responsible for all commercial tasks for EPC and Equipment Only (EO) projects from contract award through completion. 

The Contracts Specialist will be assigned to work with project teams and report to the EPC pre-construction and commercial manager.

What You’ll Do
  • Supporting the deployment team in delivery of APAC portfolio of megapack projects with a focus on contractual matters
  • Perform day-to-day administration of the head contract and subcontract obligations to ensure contractual compliance.
  • Perform all commercial aspects (with support): EOTs, variations, payment, compliance, execution of contractually required deeds, payments, security, contract adjustments, completion. 
  • Identification of program risks, opportunities, and strategic assessment and reporting of risks and control measures
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with preparation and presentation of monthly and quarterly reporting  
  • Lead contract lessons learned and provide feedback to precontracts team
  • Use leadership and negotiation skills to successfully identify and assist with resolving contractual issues.
  • Support the project manager with strategic and tactical guidance on complex contractual matters.
  • Maintain Risk & Opportunities register
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s in engineering / law / business or evidence of relevant experience in the sector
  • 3+ years’ experience in similar commercial / contracts roles preferably within the renewable energy sector (wind, solar, battery)
  • Highly developed communication skills including negotiation
  • Confident with writing commercial correspondence, extensions of time, variations
  • Understanding of EPC Contracts, Project Management
  • Self-starter, with a passion for driving the transition to sustainable energy
  • Ability to solve complex problems with a focus on win-win strategies
  • Ability to manage priorities across multiple projects
  • Proven ability to work effectively both independently and in a team-based environment
  • Ability to work mostly autonomously with minimal supervision
