Database Administrator V

We are currently looking to hire a Database Administrator V for a global online marketplace based in San Jose, California (95125). This is a hybrid, 1-year contract opportunity offering the chance to work with a dynamic team supporting critical client applications.

As a Database Administrator V, you will play a key role in supporting and optimizing MongoDB clusters that power essential applications for our client. You'll work alongside a talented team to ensure the security, performance, and availability of MongoDB databases while also contributing to data migration efforts and collaborating with engineering teams globally.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support and maintain MongoDB clusters to ensure they meet client requirements for high performance and availability.
• Resolve security vulnerabilities, including MongoDB server and OS patching, and ensure compliance with security standards.
• Monitor MongoDB clusters to proactively identify and address potential issues.
• Assist in developing tools to migrate data from MongoDB to PostgreSQL.
• Collaborate with the application team to address incidents and resolve database-related issues.
• Participate in a rotating 24x7 on-call support schedule to ensure continuous service availability.
• Provide occasional off-hours support to collaborate with engineering teams in China.

Required Qualifications:

• Strong understanding of MongoDB architecture, including replica sets, sharded clusters, and data distribution.
• Proficiency in MongoDB database design, deployment, maintenance, monitoring, backup/restore, and patch management.
• Experience in MongoDB database performance tuning and optimization.
• Hands-on expertise with MongoDB security enhancements, including X509 and TLS authentication.
• Extensive experience designing, implementing, and maintaining applications on Kubernetes platforms.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes concepts, including pods, services, deployments, and stateful sets.
• Experience with container runtimes such as Docker.
• Administration experience with MySQL and SQLite.
• At least 3 years of experience with programming languages (Python, SQL, Perl, Shell).
• Ability to quickly learn and adapt to supporting large-scale distributed database platforms.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
