Job Description

As a Principal Puzzle Level Designer at King, you'll be a key player in developing and delivering exciting new puzzle game experiences. You'll lead the creation of well-balanced, consistent, and thrilling levels for a flagship title, driving 'best-in-market' level design. Responsibilities include establishing design best practices, analyzing data and user feedback for iterative improvements, collaborating with cross-functional teams (developers, creatives, data scientists), and ensuring the game's competitiveness. You will also create task breakdowns, track issues, develop efficient pipelines, stay updated on industry trends, and set team standards for level creation and quality. This role requires expertise in puzzle game level design processes, strong design skills, data analysis experience, and excellent communication skills.

As a Principal Puzzle Level Designer working in a talented cross- functional team, you will play a key role in the development and delivery of new and exciting experiences for our players.

We’re looking for an experienced, highly motivated, collaboration-orientated 2D Principal Level Designer to help drive the development of a flagship puzzle title. If you want to contribute to creating an amazing brand-new experience for millions of players to enjoy on the go, then this is the right job for you!
 

As part of the New Games team, you will help shape, and develop the next generation of King’s games, playing a key part in leading the creation of well-balanced, consistent, and thrilling levels.
 

Your role within our Kingdom

  • Drive ‘Best in Market’ level design for a key puzzle title at King.

  • Maintain the highest possible levels of level design quality, while respecting technical limitations and performance targets

  • Collect, analyze, and utilize data and user feedback as part of the iterative process of improvement to your level designs

  • Establish level design best practice guidelines and workflows.

  • Create task breakdowns to assist with scheduling

  • Track and report key issues and risks to production and project management departments

  • Develop pipelines and processes to allow efficient and effective delivery of game environments, both for launch and as the game grows as a service

  • Stay up to date with industry techniques, standards, and workflows, aware of current & upcoming game titles & technology

  • Set the standard for the team in terms of level creation, quality assessment, and best practices as you create, assess, balance, and tune new and existing levels.

  • Support your team in continuously improving workflow and process efficiency.

  • Be the go-to expert for any questions around level design, content cadence, balancing strategy, what decisions should be taken based on your understanding and analysis of the data, and what actions are needed to ensure that the game is competitive in a rapidly changing industry.

  • Work closely with Team Leadership, Developers, Creatives, and Data Scientists to shape new features and contribute to creative discussions.

Skills to create thrills

  • Experience and knowledge and expertise around level design processes for puzzle games.

  • A great passion for games, understanding of the casual market, and, of course, understanding what makes a great game!

  • Experience working within a game production team and/or knowledge of game production best practices.

  • Strong design (layout) skills and experience.

  • Experience using qualitative and quantitative data to improve level designs.

  • Confidence and experience to self-manage and self-motivate

  • Experience working on mobile as a gaming platform and F2P games

  • Articulate with strong written and verbal communication skills
