Job Summary

Job Description

The Project Controls Estimator is responsible for estimating a project's capital budget during development and managing cost control, change management, and risk assessment during execution. This involves take-offs and estimating all aspects of complex projects, including hotels, theme parks, and cruise ships. The role requires collaborating with various teams (designers, contractors, operators) to provide cost data, analysis, and scenario planning. Estimating is done using incomplete information and requires independent work, meeting deadlines, and strong communication skills. Responsibilities include reviewing proposals, drawings, and documents to define project scope and estimate contents, negotiating and settling change orders, and providing cost management throughout a project's lifecycle, quantifying risks, and forecasting the total estimated final cost.

About the Role & Team

The Project Controls Estimator role is responsible for estimating a project’s capital budget during the development phase and then running cost control, change management and risk assessment during the execution phase.

What This Team Does

  • This team is engaged in performing take-offs and estimating all portions of sophisticated, highly integrated projects including hotels, theme park attractions, cruise ships and other expansions of the Disney experience. These project estimates include infrastructure, area development, facilities, interiors, themed finishes, show elements and rides.
  • Estimates are prepared using incomplete or ambiguous information and performed with minimal supervision.
  • We participate in the detailed estimating, negotiating, and timely settling of contractual change orders during the project.
  • We review and estimate proposal specifications, drawings, and other supporting documents to determine the scope of work and required estimate contents.
  • This team talks to operators, designers, and contractors to provide estimating, cost data, analysis, and scenario planning.
  • We provide design staff and project team with detailed cost guidance/value engineering/alternatives and test estimates for reasonableness based on comparable/equivalent historical experience.
  • We provide cost management during the entire life cycle of a project, continually quantifying risks, developing mitigation plans and forecasting the total project Estimated Final Cost (EFC) with the project team and divisions.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum 3 years estimating and/or cost control experience with a preference toward experience with projects of higher complexity, scope, scale and growing professional responsibility.
  • Understands construction documents (drawings, specifications, schedules, contracts, etc).
  • Ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines.
  • Proven decision-making and relationship building ability.
  • Confident presenter who can adapt to their audience and communicate optimally, both in writing and verbally.
  • Organization skills, accuracy, and attention to the detail.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and manage time effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge specific to the Hospitality, themed entertainment, cruise line, and/or resort industry
  • Preconstruction through implementation estimating experience.

Education

  • Four-year degree, preferred in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Business, or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.

The hiring range for this position is $94,200.00-$126,200.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
