Summary

The Render Wrangler will monitor and manage the daily operation of the render farm, proactively communicate with productions to prioritize tasks, and perform root cause analysis on failed render tasks. They will escalate infrastructure and asset issues, identify areas for system improvement, and gather and communicate queue statistics. Responsibilities include ensuring the smooth running of the render farm, coordinating communications with artists and production, and identifying and resolving render failures. The ideal candidate will have experience with Python, Maya, Renderman, Tractor, Harmony, and Linux, as well as an understanding of basic networking. The role offers flexibility with work-from-home, office, or hybrid options.

We’re looking for a proactive Render Wrangler to join our team. Reporting to the Render Supervisor and working closely with our artists and production team, you’ll coordinate communications and ensure the smooth running of our render farm.


Atomic Cartoons Inc. is an award-winning animation studio with locations in Vancouver's Mt. Pleasant Animation District, Ottawa's Hintonburg neighborhood and Los Angeles. Since its inception 25 years ago, Atomic Cartoons has created and produced numerous 2D and CG animation productions including Princess Power and Last Kids on Earth. Atomic is well known for its artist-friendly culture and flexible work environment. We are always looking for artists of all levels to join our team!


What You Will Do:

  • Monitor and manage daily operation of the render farm.
  • Proactively communicate with productions to determine daily per-show priorities and ensure studio overarching priorities are enforced.
  • Perform basic wrangling and root cause analysis on logs for failed tasks, flagging issues, while identifying and communicating trends.
  • Escalate infrastructure and asset issues to the correct person.
  • Help identify areas to improve configuration, monitoring and automation of systems.
  • Gather statistics from the queue and communicate successes, failures and trends.

What We Are Looking For:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer science or equivalent experience.
  • Must be able to work swing shifts and weekends. This role can work from home, office or hybrid.
  • Ability to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas.
  • Excellent visual skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Experience working with Python, Maya, Renderman, Tractor, Harmony and Linux is an asset for this role.
  • An understanding of basic networking is an asset for this role.
  • Currently legally eligible to work in Canada.

START DATE: January 2025


- Applicants must have resided within BC as of December 31, 2023 and be able to provide the appropriate supporting documents.
- All Atomic employees in this role have the opportunity to work remotely within BC, artists within Vancouver and the Lower Mainland can also choose hybrid and in-studio options. 


At Atomic Cartoons and Thunderbird Entertainment, we take into consideration a wide range of compensation factors including background, skills, location, and experience to determine competitive pay. In addition to competitive pay, this position is eligible for company-sponsored benefits including medical, GRSP, vacation pay, paid holiday break, paid leave, and a variety of other discounts and perks. Please note: This expected pay range is for British Columbia and is not applicable to locations outside of the province of British Columbia.

Wage ranges are based on a weekly rate.

Vancouver Pay Range

$900 - $1,000 CAD
