Job Description

Patreon is seeking a Research Manager to lead a Product and Market Research team, uncovering insights to drive best-in-class experiences that improve the creative economy. The role involves fostering a company-wide culture of research and learning, hiring, managing, and developing researchers, and owning the end-to-end research process. The manager will report to the VP of Design and partner with various leadership teams to define research questions, develop POVs, and drive business objectives. Responsibilities include identifying patterns, connecting dots for future vision, and influencing strategy through clear communication of complex concepts to leadership and the organization. The ideal candidate has experience leading complex research studies, building scalable processes, and developing talented researchers, thriving in an ambiguous, scaling, and iterative culture.

Job Details

Patreon is a media and community platform where creators give their biggest fans access to exclusive work and experiences. Over 300k creators are cultivating fandoms and building their businesses each month. Creators can offer free memberships to fans looking to explore more of their work, paid memberships to give access to exclusive media and community, or sell directly to fans with Shops.

Ultimately our goal is simple: fund the creative class. And we're leaders in that space, with:

  • 8B+ earned since Patreon's inception

  • 30M free new memberships in the first year of launching that option, and

  • 10M fans paying each month for exclusive access to creators' work and community.

We're continuing to invest heavily in building the best creator products with the best team in the creator economy and are looking for a Research Manager to support our mission

This role is based in New York or San Francisco and open to those who are able to be in-office 2 days per week on a hybrid work model.

About the Role

  • Lead a Product and Market Research team to uncover the insights that will drive best-in-class experiences that fundamentally change the creative economy for the better.

  • Foster a company-wide culture of research and learning that inspires innovation and effective product development.

  • Hire, manage, coach, and develop an exceptional team of Product and Market Researchers.

  • Own the end-to-end research process of the team, ensuring ethical practices and impactful deliverables.

  • Report to the VP of Design and partner with Product, Product Design, Engineering, Data Science, People, and GTM Leadership to define the most important research questions, develop a clear POV on key insights, and use those insights to drive business objectives.

  • Look around corners, identify patterns, and connect dots to inspire a broader vision for Patreon’s future.

  • Influence strategy and align the organization by clearly and confidently presenting complex concepts to leadership and the broader organization, helping to sustain an informed and empathetic organization.

About You

  • Experience leading complicated research studies with large data sets and numerous dependencies.

  • Well demonstrated ability to ruthlessly prioritize and build processes that scale.

  • Track record of hiring and developing talented Researchers to achieve their best performance.

  • Thrives in an ambiguous, scaling, iterative design and development culture.

  • Detail-oriented while seeing the big picture: insights are beyond reproach and galvanize the organization.

  • Ability to foster a data and research-driven culture in support of a fast-paced, holistic approach to product development.

Patreon operates under a hybrid work model, where employees based in office locations are expected to come into the office two days per week, excluding sick time and paid leave. At Patreon, we believe in fair and transparent pay. In compliance with New York and California pay transparency laws, we are sharing the expected salary range for this role.

The posted salary range is dependent on the location and the level. This range may encompass multiple levels within the role’s job family. The final offer will be based on candidate’s experience, skills, competencies, and geographic location, aligning with the appropriate job level within Patreon’s leveling framework. For remote employees located outside CA and NY, salary may vary based on location and local market conditions.
