Job Title: LibertyWorks Safety and Reliability Engineer

Working Pattern: Full time

Working location: Indianapolis, IN/Hybrid - 3 Office Days/Week)

To ensure, at all phases of the product lifecycle, that the Safety & Reliability attributes of the product are understood and that the risks arising from it are managed to an acceptable level. Contribute to the capability acquisition / improvement as well as to the technical and process governance of the S&R capability.

What you will be doing

  • Understand the product's degradation and failure mechanisms, their associated consequences and the hazards they contribute to. Where applicable, develop and deploy models to characterize them using deterministic or probabilistic / data mining techniques.
  • Lead and conduct the assessment of new and derivative design solutions/architectures, product operation and maintenance practices to evaluate their impact on product Safety & Reliability. Develop and deploy models at component, system and asset levels in order to characterize the product's Safety & Reliability attributes. Support the associated part / function classification activities.
  • Analyse and quantify risks associated with human / system interaction addressing both Human Error and the hazards arising from errors committed by personnel and also Hazards to personnel arising from system / equipment malfunction, damage or features inherent in the design.
  • Extract actionable insights from these analyses and generate improvement proposals in order to influence the product's design, its development and its in-service management.
  • Support product development and entry into service phases through the coordination and/or provision of Safety & Reliability documentation (e.g. FHA, FMECA, SSA, TLD, safety class analysis, fault schedules, OCL, etc).
  • Support product in-service phase through the coordination and/or execution of the S&R work required to address specific in-service issues or concerns (e.g. SAR, Red Top) and to through the support Periodic Safety Review activities.
  • Support the FRACAS or relevant event management system both in development and in-service phases.
  • Provide mentoring, expert guidance and authoritative leadership to engineers in the same technical discipline or to related multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Identify (both inside and outside the company) new approaches and techniques that enhance the efficiency and business impact of the discipline and capitalize on these opportunities to advance the state-of-the-art. Maintain breadth of knowledge to understand interactions with related areas.
  • Derive lessons learnt, identify and develop improvements in tools, methods and processes and support their globalization.
  • Plan, technically lead and coordinate the overall S&R work effort for a programme or product. Lead safety case structuring, coordination and integration of safety case documents. Support product development, entry into service and in-service phases through the coordination, provision and update of safety and reliability documentation (e.g. FHA, FMECA, SSA, TLD, safety class analysis, fault schedules, OCL, etc.).
  • Coordinate with customers, suppliers and regulatory authorities on Safety & Reliability matters on behalf of the specific specialist discipline.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 1+ years of experience, OR
  • Master's degree in Engineering, OR
  • JD/PhD
  • To be considered for this role, you must be a US Citizen

Preferred Requirements:

  • Good understanding of the construction and operation of the assigned product.
  • Technical experience in the deployment of Safety & Reliability tools and methods or interest in this area.
  • Proven ability to apply logical, analytical and innovative thinking on a range of technical problems.
  • Proven ability to handle ambiguity.
  • Knowledge and experience of company policies / processes and product integrity / liability and certification frameworks.
  • Where applicable, membership of a relevant professional body appropriate to region
