Job Description

Electronic Arts is seeking a Senior Environment Artist to lead the creation of high-quality, immersive environments for their upcoming Iron Man action-adventure game. Responsibilities include developing visually stunning 3D environments, collaborating with various teams (art directors, designers, engineers), refining pipelines for efficient production, mentoring junior artists, optimizing assets for performance, ensuring quality consistency, and implementing innovative techniques. The ideal candidate will have 15+ years of experience in the game industry, proficiency in 3D software (Maya, 3ds Max, Blender), expertise in texturing (Photoshop, Substance Painter), game engine familiarity (Unreal or Unity), and a strong artistic understanding. The role also involves problem-solving, effective communication, and collaboration.
Must have:
  • 15+ years experience in environment art (AAA games)
  • Proficiency in Maya, 3ds Max, or Blender
  • Expertise in texturing (Photoshop, Substance Painter)
  • Game engine knowledge (Unreal or Unity)
  • Strong artistic skills and problem-solving
Perks:
  • Paid time off
  • Parental leave
  • Free games

Our motive is to develop innovative action games set in iconic worlds where every player feels like the hero. Let's say that again—iconic worlds where every player feels like the hero. Our passion has taken us from imagining dogfighter pilots in Star Wars™: Squadrons to re-creating Isaac Clarke onboard the Ishimura in Dead Space™.

Currently, we're working on two exciting projects, an original Iron Man™ action-adventure game and what's coming next for Battlefield™.

We believe in sharing our passion with our community and each other, fostering an inclusive culture, and nurturing a growth mindset.

Although our approach may seem simple, it leads us to create the best work of our careers, bringing unique and immersive experiences to our players.

The Senior Environment Artist is responsible for leading the creation of high-quality, immersive environments in AAA games. This role involves collaboration with various teams to ensure the artistic vision is met while maintaining technical performance. As an expert in your craft and experience in this field, you are staying up to date with industry trends and user experiences, proposing solutions for future development. Additionally, you will help in staff development from recruiting, training, and guidance of more junior artists.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead Environment Creation: Develop visually stunning 3D environments that align with the game's artistic vision.

  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with art directors, designers, and engineers to establish and maintain the visual direction.

  • Pipeline Development: Create and refine pipelines for efficient environment art production.

  • Mentorship: Guide and mentor junior artists, providing constructive feedback and fostering skill development.

  • Asset Optimization: Ensure assets are optimized for performance and memory without compromising quality.

  • Quality Assurance: Maintain consistency and high standards across all environment assets.

  • Innovation: Research and implement cutting-edge techniques and technologies to enhance visual quality.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 15+ years of experience in the industry. Extensive experience in environment art within the game industry, preferably in AAA titles.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in 3D software such as Maya, 3ds Max, or Blender.

  • Texturing Skills: Expertise in texture creation using tools like Photoshop or Substance Painter.

  • Game Engine Knowledge: Familiarity with game engines like Unreal or Unity.

  • Artistic Understanding: An eye for spatial composition, lighting, color, textures, and building believable scenes. Experience with environment aesthetics, function vs. form relationships, and what makes a game level fun and intriguing. Convey a sense of 'story' in a scene or game asset – considering age, weathering, and context.

  • Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines.

  • Communication: Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
