Senior Product Counsel, Children's Privacy & Design

Epic's multi-specialized team of attorneys and legal professionals partner across our organization to provide legal solutions as well as consult and inform on the products we build and games we develop.

What You'll Do

In this role, you'll act as the primary legal adviser on children’s privacy and design, and as primary legal liaison for features supporting children and families, and other core services initiatives.

In this role, you will

• Advise on law and upcoming changes to law relevant to children’s privacy and design
• Provide practical advice on risks and risk mitigation strategies informed by law, industry best practice, and emerging research
• Provide legal support for updates to child-facing privacy and safety features, parental controls and consents, and child-and-parent facing communications
• Provide legal support for identity systems and other core backend services
• Act as legal support in investigation and escalations related to child privacy and design
• Collaborate with the policy team and legal regulatory team on forthcoming regulatory obligations and regulatory developments
• Collaborate cross-functionally within legal teams, including other subject matter experts, to ensure fulsome advice 
• Engage in conversations with the business at all levels, including senior leadership, about risks and compliant opportunities for core services, and in matters related to children’s privacy and design

What we're looking for

• Licensed in good standing to practice law
• 6+ years legal experience, including 3+ years relevant experience focused on children’s privacy and design (in-house experience at a fast-paced technology company preferred)
• Hands-on experience providing practical and actionable legal guidance regarding risks and obligations under global laws related to data protection, children’s privacy, and age appropriate design (including GDPR, UK AADC, COPPA and U.S. state laws), and relevant regulatory and litigation precedent 
• Familiarity with global online safety laws and ability to issue-spot for risks related to regulatory, contract, intellectual property, and competition law
• Familiarity with global video games rating systems a plus
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, an ability to operate autonomously as an expert in your area while exercising good judgment about escalation and collaboration, and confidence in being a primary legal point of contact for a wide range of internal stakeholders

This role is open to multiple locations across the US (including CA, NYC, & WA).

The expected annual base pay range(s) for this position are detailed below. Each base pay range is relevant only for individuals who are residents of or will be expected to work within the specified locale. Compensation varies based on a variety of factors, which include (but aren’t limited to) things such as skills and competencies, qualifications, knowledge, and experience. In addition to base pay, most employees are eligible to participate in Epic’s generous benefit plans and discretionary incentive programs (subject to the terms of those plans or programs).
