NBCUniversal is seeking a Back-End Software Engineer to develop software, help formalize the development process and tooling, and contribute to the technical vision and strategy of the "Rights and Contracts" organization. The role involves working in an agile team, testing and automating code, communicating with business partners, creating documentation, and maintaining cloud-based platforms. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of experience in software development, strong skills in Python, SQL, TypeScript, and AWS, and a passion for writing clean and maintainable code.
Must have:
  • 3+ years software development experience
  • Building production-grade cloud-native software (AWS preferred)
  • Experience with Python, SQL, TypeScript, HTML and API Development
  • Experience with automated test/build/deploy tools
  • Building software on AWS with managed services and serverless solutions
  • Experience with serverless technologies and event-driven design
  • Passion for writing clean, maintainable code
Good to have:
  • B.S. degree in Computer Science/Engineering

Job Description

We are seeking a Back-End Software Engineer who will develop software, help formalize development process and tooling, and contribute to the technical vision and strategy of the organization.

This role falls within the “Rights and Contracts” organization, which is focused on producing, cataloging, and distributing IP rights and contractual information for NBCUniversal.

Responsibilities:

  • Work in an agile software development team to complete backlog items, working in conjunction with other developers within NBCUniversal and engineers from external companies.
  • Test and create automated tests for your code, ensuring every function, service, and object is compatible with your team’s work and with the many systems within the NBCUniversal system portfolio.
  • Communicate with business partners around NBCUniversal to understand the needs of the user, and implement those ideas in software.
  • Create documentation for developers as well as business users to help them understand your products.
  • Maintain cloud-based platforms and environments of supported applications, troubleshooting and patching functional issues and data issues in lower or production environments when necessary.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • 3+ years of related experience in software development, or an equivalent combination of education/experience
  • Experience in building production-grade, cloud-native software (AWS preferred) with hands on experience in cloud automation
  • Knowledge and experience in Python, SQL, TypeScript, HTML and API Development
  • Desire to lean in on a philosophy of security, resiliency, and privacy by design
  • Experience with automated test/build/deploy tools in a Python tech stack
  • Demonstrated experience building software on the cloud such as AWS with managed services and serverless solutions including Lambda and API Gateway
  • Experience with serverless technologies and event-driven design
  • Motivated and Self-Starting: able to think critically about problems, decipher user preferences versus hard requirements, and effectively use online and onsite resources to find an appropriate solution with little intervention
  • Passionate about writing clean, maintainable code that will be used and modified by others, and able to use and modify other developers’ work rather than recreate it.

Desired Characteristics:

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field strongly preferred
  • Competent working in secured internal network environments and complex cloud networks setups
  • Able to communicate effectively in a diverse team of varying skill sets and proficiencies.  Able to lead and instruct and take direction when appropriate.  Effective in-person, written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working in large, multifaceted and matrixed organizations
  • Collaborative team player accustomed to working within and across groups
  • Organized and detail-oriented with ability to manage time effectively
  • Ability to translate business process needs into clear technical requirements
  • Ability to influence internal and external team members without direct reporting authority
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to relate complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Passion for content distribution and keeping up to date with emerging platforms & the latest technology trends
  • Ability to work and participate in a team with an open and collaborative style of communications

Additional Requirements:

  • Fully Remote: This position has been designated as fully remote, meaning that the position is expected to contribute from a non-NBCUniversal worksite, most commonly an employee’s residence.

This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.
