The VFX Artist at Ubisoft Philippines is responsible for creating high-quality visual effects aligned with the game's artistic vision. Key responsibilities include creating environmental, gameplay, and cinematic effects; working within technical constraints to ensure functionality; integrating VFX into the game engine; collaborating with other developers (Production, Engineering, Art, Lighting); contributing to game improvement through feedback; and staying updated on industry trends. The role requires experience in game VFX or a relevant field, familiarity with photorealistic environments, and proficiency in particle effects, shader systems, and 3D software (e.g., Embergen, Rayfire, Blender, Houdini). Strong communication skills and a collaborative work ethic are essential.

Job Description

A VFX Artist is responsible for creating a wide range of high-quality visual effects aligned with the game’s artistic vision and utilizing the technical possibilities of the game engine. The VFX Artist works collaboratively with game designers and artists to support gameplay and game environments with special effects including particle effects, dynamic simulations, and shader effects.

The main and routine tasks of the VFX Artist are to:

  • Understand the overall art direction and creative vision to prioritize visual effects;
  • Create environmental, gameplay, and cinematic effects;
  • Work within technical constraints to ensure that effects are functional;
  • Participate in the integration of your VFX into the game engine.
  • Collaborate with other game developers in other job disciplines such as Production, Engineering, Art, Lighting, and others.
  • Contribute to the improvement of the overall game by providing feedback to the team and use their feedback to iterate on the lighting set up.
  • Stay up to date on current trends, best practices, and latest technologies in your field of expertise
  • Document and share VFX knowledge and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Experience in game visual effects or other relevant experience;
  • Experience working within a photo realistic environment;
  • Knowledge of the game development process and game production pipeline
  • Good working knowledge of particle driven effects and shader systems;
  • Good understanding of node-based shaders and their creation;
  • Good working knowledge of relevant 3D software with particular emphasis on fluid simulation and rigid body dynamics tools (e.g. Embergen, Rayfire, Blender, Houdini etc.);
  • Demonstrates passion and talent for games and game development
  • Good communication skills, positive attitude, and great work ethic
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment
  • Fast learner, takes initiative, and meets deadlines
