Description
The Vice President of Publishing will oversee all aspects of the company’s publishing strategy and execution, driving the successful launch, marketing, and distribution of our game titles and the subsequent GAAS updates. Reporting directly to the COO, this role will lead a team of publishing professionals and collaborate closely with development, marketing, and business development teams to ensure our games achieve commercial success and critical acclaim. The ideal candidate is a strategic leader with deep industry expertise, a passion for indie games, and a proven track record in publishing.
Key Responsibilities
- Publishing Strategy: Develop and execute a comprehensive publishing strategy for the company’s game portfolio, aligning with business goals and market trends.
- Market Analysis: Conduct market research to identify opportunities, assess competitive landscapes, and determine optimal positioning for each title.
- Release Management: Oversee the end-to-end publishing process, including release planning, platform partnerships (e.g., Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch), and distribution strategies.
- Marketing & PR Oversight: Collaborate with marketing teams to craft compelling campaigns, manage community engagement, and coordinate PR efforts to maximize game visibility and player engagement.
- Team Leadership: Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing publishing team, fostering a collaborative and innovative culture.
- Budget & P&L Management: Manage publishing budgets, oversee financial performance, and ensure cost-effective strategies that deliver strong ROI.
- Partnership Development: Establish and maintain relationships with platform holders, distributors, influencers, and other key industry stakeholders.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with development teams to align publishing strategies with creative visions and ensure deliverables meet quality and timeline expectations.
- Analytics & Optimization: Monitor post-launch performance, analyze player feedback and metrics, and implement strategies to optimize game lifecycle and monetization.
- Industry Representation: Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and trade shows to build brand presence and network with partners.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in game publishing, with experience in a senior leadership role.
- Proven track record of successfully launching and managing indie or mid-sized game titles across multiple platforms.
- Deep understanding of the gaming industry, including digital distribution, platform ecosystems, and emerging trends.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience building and motivating high-performing teams.
- Exceptional strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with experience managing external partnerships.
- Proficiency in budget management, P&L analysis, and performance metrics.
- Passion for indie games and a commitment to fostering creativity and innovation.
- Experience with global markets and localization strategies is a plus.
