The New York Times seeks a Data Analyst to contribute to their Data and Insights Group (DIG). Embedded within the Messaging team, you will leverage data analysis to inform decisions about user engagement through email and push notifications. Responsibilities include A/B testing (hypothesis generation, sample size calculations, data QA, and result interpretation), developing and monitoring data models and pipelines, creating user segments for campaigns, and translating business needs into actionable tasks. A strong commitment to journalistic independence and the company's mission is essential. The role involves collaboration with product, engineering, design, and PMO teams across the organization.
Must have:
  • 1+ years data analytics experience
  • SQL proficiency and relational database experience
  • A/B testing experience
  • Data model development
  • Business requirement translation
Good to have:
  • Python or R experience
  • dbt and version control experience (Github)
  • Email/push data experience

About the Role, Mission or Department Overview

The New York Times is looking for a Data Analyst to turn their experience with data and support of world-class journalism into valuable decision-making insights. As part of the Data and Insights Group (DIG), you will join a large community of accomplished analysts who partner with Product, Engineering, Design, and PMO teams across the business. This role is embedded in the Messaging team where you will work directly with team members to help us understand and build opportunities to engage millions of users with NYT journalism through our editorial email and push notification products. You will report to our Senior Manager, Subscriber Experiences.

Responsibilities:

  • You will run A/B Tests, advising on hypothesis generation, sample size calculations, QAing data, and interpreting results
  • You will develop and monitor strategic data models, pipelines, and infrastructure
  • You will help deliver email and push campaigns through segment creation
  • You will be proactive in translating business requirements to executable tasks
  • You will demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
  • You will report to our Senior Manager, Subscriber Experiences

Basic Qualifications:

  •  1+ years of experience working with data analytics or data science teams to deliver analysis
  •  Proficiency in SQL and experience working with relational databases
  •  1+ years of experience with A/B testing

Preferred Qualifications:

  •  1+ years of experience in Python or R
  •  1+ years of experience in dbt and comfort with version control (Github, code review)
  •  1+ years in email or push data

The annual base pay range for this role is between:
$80,000$95,000 USD
