David Weekley Homes, a Houston-based national home builder, seeks an Assistant Interior Designer specializing in model home merchandising. Responsibilities include collaborating on design presentations for model homes, which involves developing design solutions through space planning, selecting furniture, art, accessories, architectural materials, and lighting to align with the company's design aesthetic and brand standards. The role also involves assisting in creating detailed interior finish selection packages, including elevation drawings, flooring and paint diagrams, and lighting selections. Procurement tasks include opening new furniture accounts and processing purchase orders with vendors. Support during model home installations is also required, which may involve local travel and directing movers for furniture, art, and drapery placement.
Must have:
  • Associate's Degree in Interior Design
  • 2+ years of residential interior design experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint)
  • Strong understanding of space planning, color, scale, and material finishes
  • Excellent organization and communication skills
Good to have:
  • Bachelor's Degree of Interior Design
  • Experience in homebuilding or model homes
  • Proficiency in 3D rendering software or AutoCAD

Job Description

David Weekley Homes, a Houston-based national home builder, has an opportunity for an Assistant Interior Designer specializing in model home merchandising.

  • Presentations: Collaborate on design presentations for model homes. This includes developing design solutions through space planning, selecting furniture, art, accessories, architectural materials, and lighting. This would align with David Weekley Homes’ design aesthetic and brand standards.
  • Interior finish selection package: Assist in creating detailed elevation drawings, flooring and paint diagrams, lighting selections.
  • Procurement: Open new furniture accounts, process and follow up on purchase orders with vendors
  • Model Home Installations: Provide support during installations; this may require local travel & to various cities. Directing movers for placement of furniture, art, and drapery. Obtain quotes from movers and help coordinate project installations.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree of Interior Design degree is preferred. Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Interior Design.
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in residential interior design (preferably with a focus on homebuilding or model homes).
  • Software knowledge: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (specifically PowerPoint) or other 3D rendering software, & AutoCAD
  • Attributes:
    • A clear understanding of space planning, color, scale, and material finishes with a strong attention to detail.
    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
    • Displays a high level of integrity and professionalism.
    • Critical thinking and adaptability.
    • Excellent organization & communication skills
    • Exercises appropriate time management with the ability to multi-task.

Additional Information

 

  • Ability to travel as needed, including regular travel locally in the Greater Houston area as well as occasional overnight travel to other markets.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
  • Ability to squat, lift, climb and handle moderate physical activity required during model home installations.
