Audio Lead (CONTRACT)

Remote or San Francisco, CA

Elsewhere is hiring an Audio Lead to help bring our world to life through sound. We're working on a co-op multiplayer game that captures the aesthetic and soul of indie games, the replayability and depth of roguelikes, and the ambition to become a forever game that reaches millions of players.

You'll own the entire audio experience of our game, crafting an immersive soundscape that elevates every moment of gameplay. From the satisfying crunch of combat to the ambient atmosphere that makes our world feel alive, you'll work closely with our founder and game design team to ensure that sound is a core pillar of the player experience.

Our team works in-person out of a beautiful converted industrial space in the Mission District here in San Francisco, CA. Being located in the area is a big plus, but not strictly necessary.

This position is for an ongoing contract. Initial work will be about 10-20 hrs/week depending on business needs. If things go well, more work or perhaps a full-time role are possible.

Your Profile:

  • You've shipped at least one game (indie or AAA) and can point to specific audio elements you owned from concept to completion.
  • You have experience doing audio design for multiplayer games and taking into account that players might be on voice chat while they play.
  • You're an expert in Wwise (or FMOD) and have experience implementing dynamic audio systems in game engines like Godot, Unity or Unreal.
  • You're comfortable working with version control (git) and understand how to organize and maintain audio assets in a game project.
  • You have a keen ear for sound design and can create original audio assets as well as thoughtfully curate from existing libraries.
  • You're skilled at mixing and understand how to balance different audio elements to create a cohesive soundscape.
  • You're collaborative and excited to work with high-profile music composers while owning the overall audio integration.
  • You have experience working with voice actors and adding voice over to games, including thinking about localization.
  • You're analytical and methodical in your approach to audio implementation, ensuring consistent quality across all game states.
  • You're creative and bring fresh ideas to audio design. You think about how sound can enhance gameplay mechanics and emotional moments.
  • You love games deeply and have strong opinions about what makes game audio truly memorable.
  • You're ambitious. You want to be an early part of something big. Something with massive potential that players are going to absolutely love. You want to work with a game studio that pushes the envelope of games as a medium.
  • You're collaborative. You're excited to work closely with our founder, game artists, game engineers, and more to create a unified vision.

About us:

We have a deep bench of talent from diverse backgrounds and have been backed by top Silicon Valley investors. We’re an idealistic team that loves video games and deeply believes in their potential: both as a creative medium and as a way for us to socialize and play together.

Your colleagues would include:

  • a Berkeley-educated immersive artist who bootstrapped built a successful creative business on her own
  • an MIT-educated engineer who single handedly added networking to a hit game in the ARPG genre
  • a gamedev who made an unauthorized fan remake of a Nintendo game that went viral
  • a repeat entrepreneur who previously cofounded a billion-dollar startup
