The Role
We are looking for a dynamic candidate with music production or in-house studio experience to act as a Music Production Coordinator for our live-action and anime productions in Japan. This role will be reporting to the Manager, Music Production - Japan and will partner with them to provide support on the implementation of cross-functional music production solutions that will support our productions and overall slate growth across Netflix-branded Japanese live-action and anime titles.

Key Responsibilities
- Read and break down incoming scripts for music needs, flagging upcoming visual vocals/on cameras, and potential licensing issues (challenging song approvals, grand rights, etc.)
- Liaise with Composer agents//music producers during the personnel hiring process, ensuring key dates, project information, and watermarked materials are distributed. Help field project inquiries as needed
- Distribute onboarding materials to partners, music supervisors and composers
- Make appropriate introductions between production and music crew, also ensuring that the music team receives scripts and cuts from production
- Attend regular check-ins with music supervisors/composers, taking relevant notes and connecting with the Music manager on action items
- Review cuts, flagging unaddressed music needs/clearance issues as they arise in conjunction with the music supervisor, composer, production, post, etc.
- Maintain consistent communication between Music Legal Team/Music Licensing partners regarding relevant Music Production updates/action items
- Attend show-specific/check-ins and provide music updates to the internal title management team
Experience & Skills
- Experience: 5 years either as a music director, producer, or supervisor at a studio. Has in-territory experience in music production ideally for live-action features, series and anime.
- This role will have deep creative relationships with labels, publishers, managers, agents, composers, music supervisors, etc. as well as an internal content team and have a vast understanding of music supervision or worked in-house at a studio as a music producer.
- This role will be a liasion between internal cross-functional teams and external partners, and be responsible for ensuring the internal cross-functional teams understand the music production workflow.
- Collaborate with the external music director, producer, or supervisor to oversee and manage the music production objectives/workflow for the project.
- Advise/support on-camera performances in collaboration with Music team - including clearance, pre-records, on-set production and post production requirements
- Work with music editor and post supervisor during temp dub to make sure music is ready for preview/test screening.
- Support post supervisor, music editor and composer to develop a music post schedule that coincides with post timeline and adhere to said schedule and music milestones
- Coordinate music notes and approval process between the studio, composer, director and producers by organizing score review sessions after locked picture
- Frequently check in with the composer, music director, producer, or supervisor on scheduling, booking and supervising scoring sessions and live recordings to ensure they are running on time and on budget
- Align with the music team as they are in the process of existing song selection as it relates to studio approvals and budget.
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment, are very curious and have an entrepreneurial mindset.
- Native Level Fluency in Japanese is required. Business-level English is a plus.
