Onward Search is seeking a Cyber Security Engineer III for a 7-12 month contract opportunity with a global online marketplace platform. The role involves joining the CSIRT, working on security incidents, cyber analysis, and forensics. Responsibilities include investigating security incidents, responding to escalated events, researching vulnerabilities, maintaining proficiency in cybersecurity tools and techniques, providing updates to leadership, conducting digital forensics investigations, and participating in rotating shifts. The position requires strong incident response skills, experience with penetration testing and log analysis, knowledge of networking protocols and scripting languages, and the ability to assess and manage vulnerabilities. The role is based in San Jose, CA or Washington DC with a hybrid work model.

We are currently seeking a Cyber Security Engineer III to join the Security Engineering team of a global online marketplace platform. This is an exciting 7-12 Months contract opportunity where you’ll contribute to innovative cybersecurity efforts within a dynamic and inclusive culture, championing global commerce and empowering individuals.

As a Cyber Security Engineer III, you’ll join a highly visible Cyber Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT), working on security incidents, cyber analysis, forensics, and more. This role is located in San Jose, CA or Washington DC with a hybrid work model, and you’ll have the chance to build innovative solutions to help protect critical assets and mitigate security threats.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigations: Analyze and investigate computer security incidents to determine the extent of compromises to systems.
  • Escalations: Respond to escalated events, develop and execute security controls to prevent attacks or infiltration attempts.
  • Research: Stay ahead of evolving threats by researching security vulnerabilities and designing countermeasures.
  • Education: Maintain proficiency in tools, techniques, and trends in cyber security, including network security, encryption, and data hiding.
  • Communications: Provide timely updates and pass-downs to shift leads and leadership; collaborate with supporting teams to improve security policies and standards.
  • Digital Forensics: Conduct HR investigations and legal holds in accordance with local laws and industry best practices.
  • Shift Coverage: Participate in rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, across Day, Swing, and Graveyard shifts.

Core Skills and Expertise:

  • Incident Response: Ability to lead investigations and direct action during critical security events.
  • Offensive Techniques: Experience with penetration testing, IOCs, and exploits across various layers of the stack.
  • Log Analysis: Comfortable analyzing logs using SEIM tools to identify and hunt for threats.
  • System Forensics: Basic understanding of image acquisition, memory forensics, and related techniques.
  • Networking: Strong knowledge of TCP/IP protocols (HTTP, DNS, FTP, DHCP, ARP) and network analysis tools like Wireshark/TCPDump.
  • Scripting: Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python, Perl, or similar.
  • Risk Analysis: Ability to assess and manage vulnerabilities, balancing risk with operational needs.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in incident detection, response, malware analysis, or digital forensics.
  • Certifications: Must have at least one of the following:
    • SANS GIAC: GCED, GCIA, GPEN, GCIH, etc.
    • ISC2: CISSP, CCSP, CCFP.
    • Cisco: CCNA, CCNP.
    • EC-Council: CEH, ENSA, CNDA, ECIH, etc.
    • Offensive Security: OSCP, OSCE, OSWP.
    • Digital Forensics: EnCE, GCFA, ACE, etc.
  • Specialized Experience: At least one (1) year of specialized experience in:
    • Security Assessment or Offensive Security
    • Application Security
    • Security Operations Center (SOC) / Incident Response
    • Cyber Intelligence Analysis

To qualify for our benefits package, you must work over 30 hours per week, and the length of the assignment must be a minimum of 10 weeks.
