Job Description

As a Data Center Technician II at Google, you'll be responsible for deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting Google's advanced data center server and network infrastructure. This involves both physical deployment of technology and collaboration with various stakeholders. Responsibilities include resolving equipment/infrastructure issues, maintaining data security, performing preventative maintenance, and participating in larger installation projects. The role requires the ability to lift heavy equipment, work non-standard hours, and possess strong communication skills. Growth opportunities exist within Hardware Operations or in related fields like software development, engineering, or project management.

Must have:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
Troubleshooting OS, hardware, or networking
Physical ability (lifting, bending, etc.)
Fluent English communication
Work non-standard hours
Deploy and operate data center infrastructure
Diagnose and troubleshoot issues

Good to have:

Google IT Support Professional Certification
2+ years of experience in troubleshooting
Data center/NOC experience
Collaboration and teamwork skills
Adaptability to dynamic environments

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting one of the following: operating systems and computer/server hardware or networking protocols.
Ability to lift/move 50lb (23kg) of equipment and ability to exert yourself physically over extended periods of time, including frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling and lifting.
Ability to work non-standard hours, including working weekends, holidays and on shift-based schedule as required.
Ability to communicate in English fluently to support client relationships in the region.

Preferred qualifications:

Certified in online Google IT Support Professional program.
2 years of experience diagnosing and troubleshooting one of the following: operating systems and computer/server hardware or networking protocols.
Experience working within a data center or network operation center environment.
Ability to collaborate and partner with teams to overcome challenges.
Ability to adapt to changes in a dynamic work environment.

About the job

The Hardware Operations team is responsible for monitoring, maintaining and deploying the state-of-the-art physical infrastructure behind Google's powerful search technology. As a Data Center Technician, you'll deploy and maintain Google's advanced Data Center Server and Network Infrastructure. You'll also participate in or lead local project teams on larger installations and develop project contingency plans.

In this role, duties range from the physical deployment of data center-related technology to working closely with the various stakeholders. It will fall to you to ensure that our goals, missions and projects are successfully delivered, and, more importantly, that they are repeatable across our global array of data centers. This position offers a great introduction to the wider engineering world at Google. Depending of your area of interest, capabilities, and geographical mobility, you will have the opportunity to develop either within Hardware Operations or move towards software development, engineering, networking operations or our project management groups.

Responsibilities

Deploy and operate new data center infrastructure across projects or functions.
Report issues and follow data center procedures to troubleshoot and diagnose straightforward issues with equipment or infrastructure as they arise, and applying the resources needed to resolve identified issues.
Maintain the security and integrity of data, track various forms of media to check for standard data security issues (e.g., data was not properly erased) handled in accordance with Google security standards.
Disassemble specific equipment that has reached its end-of-life via part replacement or maintenance, in a team setting.
Repair, fix, and perform preventative maintenance on equipment, servers, machines, or infrastructure based on identified issues with defined solutions and limited guidance.
