Summary

Captions seeks a Graphics Software Engineer to develop and optimize high-performance graphics engines for its AI-powered content creation studio. Responsibilities include leveraging modern browser technologies (WebAssembly, WebCodecs, Rust) to build dynamic, browser-based video creation tools; writing efficient JavaScript/TypeScript code; utilizing 2D/3D graphics libraries (WebGL, Three.js); and participating in architectural decisions. The ideal candidate possesses experience with JavaScript/TypeScript, ideally React, proficiency in Rust and real-time graphics development (WebGL, Three.js, or Canvas), and strong computer science fundamentals. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are essential. The role is based in NYC.

About the Role

We are seeking a Graphics Software Engineer to join our team and contribute to the cutting-edge development of our consumer facing web-platform. You’ll be at the forefront of real-time graphics innovation, building products that change the way creators and businesses create video content, all while pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the browser.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize high-performance graphics engines for our AI powered content creation studio.

  • Leverage modern browser technologies, including WebAssembly, WebCodecs, and Rust, to deliver dynamic, browser-based video creation and editing tools.

  • Solve complex visual and technical challenges by writing efficient, maintainable, and scalable JavaScript/TypeScript code.

  • Utilize 2D and 3D graphics libraries (e.g., WebGL, Three.js) to create advanced graphics tools.

  • Participate in architectural and technical decision-making to meet product and design requirements.

  • Contribute to a culture of clean, high-quality code and simple, elegant solutions to complex problems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript development, including modern frameworks like React.js or similar.

  • Proficiency in Rust and real-time graphics development experience with 3D/2D graphics libraries such as WebGL, Three.js, or Canvas.

  • Strong computer science fundamentals, problem-solving skills, and the ability to deliver simple, effective solutions to complex challenges.

  • Excellent communication skills, with a history of collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams, including design and product.
