About the job

US Based Applicants Only.

Purple, Rock, Scissors has an exciting opportunity for an Illustrator to support a large tech client of ours. This role supports the payments team within the organization. Payments is the central source for payments design styles, tokens, components and templates that partner teams can use to deliver features within the payments ecosystem. They aim to simplify the launch process and enable internal teams to create simple, modern, and cohesive experiences. To achieve this mission they provide design resources including a Figma sticker sheet, design guidelines documentation, and more, across all products.

Role Type: Full Time, 6 Month Contract with option to extend

Will require extensive onboarding, background/education/employment checks, and credentialing.

As an Illustrator within the Payments Design System (PDS) team, you will be a key contributor to the visual language and user experience of Google's payment products. You will collaborate closely with Content, Designers, Motion Design, and Engineers to amplify the user experience through delightful, intuitive, and cohesive illustrations across various payment platforms.

Top Daily Responsibilities

  • Collaborate effectively with Content, Design, Motion, and Engineering to identify opportunities, prioritize projects, and implement illustrations for features. This includes working on existing features and upcoming projects, ensuring graphics are integrated seamlessly into the user experience.
  • Design and implement robust, usable, and delightful illustrations that adhere to current design language and illustration libraries, GM3 guidelines, and address pain points like inconsistencies throughout the experience to drive cohesion across surfaces and products.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate, junior college, or Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Five years of experience in product design or UX.
  • Experience working with motion design (either implementing motion or collaborating with motion designer).
  • Understand the intricacies of UI elements (color, type, layout, iconography, surfaces) and leverage appropriate prototyping tools to help demonstrate how interactions with those elements behave based on user needs.
  • Experience contributing to mature design systems including illustration library, documentation, and education.
  • Knowledge of technical constraints in designing for web, iOS, and Android.
  • Comfortable working with front end engineering teams for web and mobile user interfaces.
  • Knowledge of creating optimized, scalable assets for multiple devices and screen sizes. Big plus if you’ve contributed code for web or native apps.
  • Experience with accessibility standards.
  • Advocate of user-centered design principles across multiple platforms, and great technical know-hows
  • Can work within constraints, and execute with attention to detail.
  • Strong ability/vision to navigate complex problems by devising beautiful creative solutions
  • Strong communication, collaboration and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Expert with Figma and Illustrator, with strong awareness of strengths and limitations
  • Portfolio highlighting multiple projects, with at least one focusing on a design system.
