The Food and Land Use Coalition (FOLU) is seeking an Impact and Learning Specialist to support its work in transforming food and land use systems globally. This hybrid position, based in London, involves 8 days per month in the office. The role is within the Learning Unit, focusing on planning, monitoring, evaluation, and learning (PMEL), portfolio management, reporting, and donor compliance. Responsibilities include supporting the Head of Learning and Impact with the learning program, coordinating a virtual network of learning practitioners, leading global learning activities, supporting annual work planning and budget development, and managing the portfolio management system. Additionally, the role involves supporting award coordination, ensuring donor reporting compliance, drafting key reporting products, and coordinating coalition-wide meetings. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, at least 3 years of relevant experience, experience with government or private sector program coordination, strong relationship management skills, project management experience, and report writing abilities. Knowledge of food system transformation and MEL systems is desirable. The candidate must have existing work authorization, as visa sponsorship is not provided.

Job Details

This is a hybrid position which requires 8 days per month in the office. You can be based in our WRI Europe office in London. Existing work authorization is required at the time of application submission.

The Food and Land Use Coalition (FOLU) is a self-governed Coalition of organisations and individuals working collaboratively to achieve a shared objective: the urgent transformation of food and land use systems to deliver a better future for people, nature and climate. FOLU supports science-based solutions and helps to build a shared understanding of the challenges and opportunities to unlock collective, ambitious action.

 

Job Highlight:

 

You will support FOLU’s work to enhance its impact and drive food systems transitions across the world. The role is located within the Learning Unit, responsible for supporting the Coalition with planning, monitoring, evaluation and learning (PMEL), effective portfolio management & reporting, and donor compliance. The Learning Unit sits within FOLU’s Delivery and Impact team, alongside other supporting functions such as Fundraising, Partnerships and Communications. The role is managed by the Unit’s other staff member, the Head of Learning and Impact. This unique opportunity involves working with some of the world’s most prominent institutions and individuals in the fields of economics, agriculture, environment, health and nutrition. You integrate equity into your work.

 

What will you do:

 

Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (40%):

 

  • Support the Head of Learning and Impact to deliver an ambitious learning program for FOLU. Support the implementation of FOLU’s learning agenda including coordination of a virtual network of learning practitioners across FOLU
  • Lead the delivery of specific global learning activities, including communities of practice, learning events, exchange visits and learning products
  • Support the annual work planning process including the development of planning, budget and strategic templates. Ensure that all partners submit plans in a timely fashion and integrate these plans to give a coherent and costed work program
  • Support the implementation portfolio management system which includes quarterly performance assessments, feedback reports and project ratings. Work with colleagues in the finance team to identify portfolio risks and ensure resources are allocated effectively. Provide support to global and country teams to ensure that the portfolio management system is effectively implemented across the coalition
  • Support the development of a consolidated M&E plan for the Coalition, aligned with a consolidated Results Framework
  • Collate and integrate annual results reporting against the Phase 3 results framework
  • Support teams to comply with the Quality Assurance Process for knowledge products
  • Support work to commission evaluations

 

Portfolio Management & Reporting (30%):

 

  • Support award coordination across the coalition, including acting as award coordinator on some specific grants. This will involve working closely with colleagues in the Finance Team and the Countries Team (including country coordinators)
  • Ensure that we meet donor reporting requirements and support relationship management with the donors, includes supporting the Funding Partners Committee
  • Draft FOLU’s key reporting products including (1) quarterly reports (2) annual reports (3) impact stories and (4) final project reports. This will include commissioning inputs across the coalition and working with colleagues to synthesis and integrate these into a coherent and succinct whole

 

Coalition Coordination (30%):

 

  • Support the smooth organization and running of FOLU’s coalition wide meetings
  • Engage with, and help coordinate, senior external speakers and participants
  • Oversee the efficient and effective management of information including taking initiative to improve processes where there is potential to do so. This relates directly to (1) overseeing distribution lists and (2) annual updates to FOLU handbook (3) ensuring smooth operation of FOLU SharePoint and file storage
  • Coordinate to deliver key Secretariat offers, such as the Quarterly Pulse Check, and Secretariat Retreats.

 

What will you need:

 

  • Education: You have a completed a bachelor’s degree in a relevant study area. Relevant work experience in lieu of degree is accepted
  • Experience: You have 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience within government or private sector coordinating programme management or multi-stakeholder initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse stakeholders (for example, across academic, public policy or the private sector)
  • Relationship management skills in various cultural contexts
  • Project management experience, especially working with donors or other external stakeholders 
  • Experience with writing reports and proofreading
  • Knowledge of the food system transformation landscape desirable
  • Experience with MEL systems or impact measurement desirable
  • Languages: You are proficient in spoken and written English
  • Requirements: Existing work authorization is required. WRI is unable to authorize visa work authorization.

 

Potential Salary:

 

£38,000 - £47,000

 

Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
