Tesla's Vehicle Engineering team in Berlin seeks Mechanical Design Engineers (entry-level to expert) for Body or Battery Structural Design Engineering. Responsibilities include creating component and system requirements, 3D design using CAD (CATIA V5/3DX a plus), design optimization through analysis, collaboration with cross-functional teams (manufacturing, testing, supply chain), and continuous product improvement. Candidates should possess strong engineering fundamentals in materials and mechanics, automotive design experience, and a passion for problem-solving through design. Mentoring junior engineers is also part of the role.
Must have:
  • Mechanical Engineering background or equivalent
  • Strong materials & mechanics fundamentals
  • CAD modeling experience
  • Automotive design experience
  • Problem-solving skills
Good to have:
  • CATIA V5/3DX experience
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes
  • Experience with lightweight materials
  • Project supervision experience

Mechanical Design Engineer – Structural Design Engineering (from Entry-level to Expert)

Be part of a growing and energetic Battery and Body Structures Engineering team to engineer, execute and deliver cutting-edge products to global customers. You will work with cross-functional team members to continuously innovate and launch new products for Europe and other growing markets. 

What You’ll Do
  • Create and develop Body-in-White or Battery enclosure component and system requirements and specifications to achieve best-in-class system targets for function, cost, weight, investment, NVH, thermal, structural and crash performance
  • 3D design and GD&T drawings of complex parts and assemblies
  • Optimize designs via analytical, numerical, and/or empirical assessments, (DFMEA, fault tree, decision matrices, etc.)
  • Collaborate with teams inside and outside Tesla (manufacturing, test, NPI, supply chain, etc.)
  • Support continuous product and process improvement and question industry standards (as well as our own) to continually raise the bar
  • Mentor less experienced engineers through the design process
What You’ll Bring
  • Education background in mechanical engineering, or the equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability
  • Strong engineering fundamentals in materials and mechanics
  • Strong experience in CAD modeling (experience in CATIA V5/3DX is a plus but not required)
  • Hands-on experience in automotive design and engineering, knowledge of relevant manufacturing processes and lightweight, recyclable and sustainable materials, comparable fields apply as well 
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise a project from technical standpoint: from initial design to manufacturing
  • Full design cycle experience in relevant field preferred
  • Find joy from solving problems with design solutions
