Job Responsibilities :
The Merchant Risk Analyst & Underwriting role involves assessing and mitigating potential risks associated with new and existing merchants, ensuring compliance with internal policies, industry regulations, and underwriting guidelines. The analyst will work closely with sales, operations, and compliance teams to identify high-risk merchants and take necessary actions to minimize exposure.
- Evaluate and underwrite new merchant applications, assessing creditworthiness, business model, and potential risk factors.
- Conduct detailed analysis of financial statements, credit reports, and other relevant data.
- Approve or decline merchant applications based on established guidelines and risk appetite.
- Perform regular reviews and risk assessments of the merchant portfolio.
- Utilize risk management tools and data analytics to detect and investigate suspicious activities.
- Monitor the transaction activity of existing merchants to identify unusual patterns or behaviors indicative of potential fraud.
- Ensure all underwriting and risk management activities comply with industry regulations, company policies, and international standards.
- Work closely with the sales team to understand business needs and provide risk-related guidance and communicate risk assessment finding/decisions to relevant stakeholders clearly and effectively.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of all underwriting and risk assessment activities.
- Prepare regular reports on risk exposure, underwriting decisions, and portfolio performance for senior management.
Pre-Requisites :
- Candidate must posses at least Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Risk Management or a related field. Professional certification is an added advantage.
- 3+ years of experience in risk analysis, underwriting, or a related field, preferably within the e-commerce or payments industry.
- Excellent understanding of risk management principles and practices in the context of e-commerce and payment processing.
- Proficiency in using risk management software and tools.
- Familiarity with ticketing systems and CRM software.
- Capable of working independently and collaboratively in a dynamic work environment.
- Attention to detail and the ability to make informed decisions under pressure.
- Knowledge of industry regulations and compliance standards.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to work in I-City, Shah Alam
