Job Description

The Nurse onboard a Disney Cruise Line vessel provides inpatient, outpatient, and ICU care to both crew and guests. Responsibilities include maintaining medical equipment, training the Emergency Stretcher Team, coordinating health education, triaging emergency calls, ensuring patient confidentiality, assisting with crew immunizations, and performing various administrative tasks. Technical skills such as X-rays and lab tests are learned onboard. The role requires active nursing licensure from a STCW country, a nursing degree, a letter of good standing, and at least two years of professional nursing experience in general, emergency, trauma, or critical care. BLS/ALS/ACLS certifications are mandatory.

As a Nurse you will provide onboard nursing care to both our crew and guest!

You will report to

  • Chief Physician (Shore side)
  • Charge Nurse (Shipboard)

Responsibilities:

How You Will Make a Difference

  • Provide inpatient, outpatient and ICU care onboard for guests and crew
  • As advised by Charge Nurse, check, and maintain all medical equipment. Advising accurate parties when repairs are necessary.
  • Provide training for Emergency Stretcher Team
  • Coordinate and implement onboard health education in conjunction with medical staff
  • PALS certification may be required before completing the first year of employment
  • Triage emergency calls, assess and treat on scene and transfer patient to shipboard medical center for definitive care.
  • Ensure confidentiality of medical information.
  • Assist with implementation of crew immunization programs.
  • Perform various technical and non-clinical administrative tasks that support the efficient and safe operation of the medical center under the direction and supervision of the Charge Nurse.
  • Additional duties include equipment checks, medicines and inventory management, participation in drills, audits, inspections, and training of other crew members.
  • Technical skills are learned and practiced on board, such as X-rays acquisition, and performing a wide array of laboratory tests and other procedures.

Basic Qualifications:

What You Will Bring to the Team

  • Active nursing license from STCW country.
  • Nursing degree from recognized college or university from STCW country
  • The ability to provide a letter of good standing from STCW country prior to joining the vessel
  • 2 Years of recent professional nursing experience in general and emergency medicine or trauma care or critical care
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ALCS) Certificates
  • Valid accredited BLS/ALS/ACLS certificates prior to joining a vessel
  • Digital literacy, experience with MS Office programs and experience with use of electronic health records

This is a SHIPBOARD role:

You must:

  • Be genuinely interested in a career at sea and willing to live and work onboard a Disney Cruise Line vessel
  • Be willing to follow and perform safety role, emergency responsibilities and associated responsibilities as specified in the ship Assembly Plan
  • Be willing to uphold the general safety management responsibilities as specified in the Safety Management System in areas and operations under their control
  • Appreciative of working and living in a multicultural environment that has strict rules and regulation

Your Responsibilities:

  • Have a valid passport and C1/D Seaman's visa (DCL will provide you with documents to obtain this)
  • Complete a pre-employment medical
  • Obtain a criminal background check
  • Bring approved work shoes

**Disney Cruise Line is a drug-free workplace. All new hires are required to undergo drug/alcohol testing within the first week onboard and throughout their contracts. Failure to pass the drug/alcohol testing will result in immediate termination.
