RPG Developer

What you will be doing:

• Proactively make recommendations for improving Triton performance and suitability to meet business needs, considering standard methodology for iSeries.
• Drive the architecture for the integration of the iSeries with associated systems through APIs, in line with emerging Travelopia strategy on use of APIs.
• Automate manual processes within Triton where possible, to minimize time spent on support tasks.
• Assist other developers and architects in conceptualizing and developing new software programs and applications.
• Assist in the preparation and documentation of user and system requirements and specifications.
• Conduct research on emerging application development software products, languages, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
• Work with the team to ensure the software development lifecycle process is efficient and fit for purpose, owning the process and proactively making changes if required.
• Provide accurate estimates before commencing any work, ensuring it is possible to deliver on commitments made to the businesses we support.
• Ensure that all developments and projects are signed off from a technical perspective and work with the business analyst to ensure the solution fully meets the requirements.
• Support the business analyst by demonstrating the proposed solution to the collaborator before any release to live.
• Ensure iSeries support issues are addressed within agreed timeframes.
• Support the platform, including on-call assistance, and collaborate with team members to quickly resolve critical production issues according to agreed SLAs.
• Produce quality designs and code for complex systems and subsystems for use in the Marine application platforms.
• Take a proactive role in identifying and resolving technical and functional errors in the system.
• Collaborate with the business and business analyst to capture and analyze requirements, offering technical input in a clear, well-communicated manner. Build appropriate design documentation and/or data models for others to reference.
• Follow department standards on code and environment configuration management, project lifecycle, and release procedures.
• Provide written/verbal project progress reports or updates as requested by the line manager.
• Deliver agreed tasks to agreed timescales.
• Work with third parties involved with application development.
• Keep up-to-date with developments in iSeries, as well as the larger online and IT domains, both within and beyond the travel sector. Propose ideas for improvement that will enrich the customer experience, foster profitable growth, and boost conversion rates.
• Actively promote the use of new technologies and techniques to provide standout over and above our competitors.
• Gain a strong understanding of the business systems, their interactions with other applications, and their role in the IT architecture.
• Analyze systems proactively to identify problems and trends and propose technical solutions and recommend changes to optimize system performance and usability.
• Build documentation to support future maintenance of the system and to meet operational requirements.
• Review the design and code produced by colleagues to ensure it is of good quality, runs efficiently, and adheres to coding standards.
• Foster positive relationships and collaboration with collaborators, customers, and partners.
• Ownership and risk management of technical debt.
• Ensure security is at the forefront of technical solutions when appropriate.
• Mentor other team members.

Qualifications & Experience required:

• Agile certification.
• Software development certification.
• 5 years’ experience with programming languages, including RPG IV, RPG Free, RPGLE, CLLE, and SQL.
• Hands-on experience working in coordinated development environments, including PDM and X-Analysis.
• 5 years’ experience with IBM i operating systems and IBM i database.
• Solid working knowledge of current Internet technologies, including XML, HTML.
• Experience working in a multi-currency environment.
• Experience in a combined project and support environment.
• Experience in crafting and developing APIs.
• Experience defining/implementing an enterprise application and architecture.
• Experience working with Rocket Aldon, Query/400, HelpSystems Robot, ACOM, Journaling, DB2/400, web services on iSeries.
• Experience with multiple programming languages on multiple platforms - .NET, JavaScript, PHP.
• Web Services on iSeries using Keyed Data Queues, HTTP-API Personal Project Skills: HTML/CSS.
