ABOUT THE JOB

Spry Fox is looking for a Senior Engineer who’s passionate about empowering others.  In this role, you will primarily support the team across all disciplines in ways that multiply our efforts, improve team efficiency, and help us create the best games we can. But everyone in Spry Fox wears many hats (without working more than 40 hours a week!) and whomever we hire for this role will ultimately contribute in other areas as well.

In your primary role, you’ll work with our Art, Design, and Engineering teams to identify workflow inefficiencies, pain points, and problems in our development process. You will be responsible for leading this initiative, making sure we generate good potential solutions, weighing any tradeoffs, and ultimately implementing and supporting the best solution for the team. You’ll also be responsible for supporting, growing, and maintaining Spry Fox’s existing set of engine-specific and custom tools that we use every day.

Please note that Spry Fox is a flat organization. There are no “principal engineers” or “directors of technology” (though several of our Sr. Engineers previously held those titles at other studios.) We treat everyone with respect and expect everyone to exhibit the autonomy and skill that only a great senior engineer can.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify inefficiencies and problematic areas in our development process across disciplines, and self-prioritize and provide solutions to those problem areas. You will have a lot of autonomy in this role!

  • Maintain, extend, support, and document existing development tools

  • Build and support our custom asset pipelines, and be a key advocate in the conversation around what our content creation standards and practices should be.

  • Grow Spry Fox’s proprietary libraries, tools, and technologies across game engines and platforms

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years experience in a game development engineering role, with at least 2 years experience in a tools-related role, specifically.

  • A strong passion for empowering others to do their best work.

  • Experience with the full tool lifecycle: discovering problems, evaluating potential solutions, implementing tools, and evaluating their effectiveness

  • Experience working with custom stand-alone tools

  • Experience creating tools that are used by many game development disciplines

  • C#, C++, Python experience

  • Experience with the development of a live game

  • Capable of working effectively in a self-directed environment

  • Excellent communication skills in general, and the capacity to understand and readily collaborate with people in other functions/people of varying technical skills.

Nice To Have

  • Experience with custom game engines

  • Unreal or Unity experience

  • Javascript and web tech experience

  • Automated Testing experience
