We are seeking a passionate and highly experienced Staff Software Engineer to join our Variable Compensation team. As a foundational member, you will design, build, and scale a first-of-its-kind compensation product, working on complex data pipelines, large-scale distributed systems, and cutting-edge performance analytics. Your work will directly impact how businesses pay employees based on performance.
Must have:
  • Design and implement scalable, high-performance systems to process large-scale compensation data and performance metrics.
  • Architect and build efficient, real-time data pipelines for accurate, timely, and secure compensation calculations.
  • Develop and optimize distributed systems handling high-throughput data processing and analytics.
  • Set best practices for code quality, security, and system reliability.
  • Work closely with Product, Design, and other Engineering teams to define and execute product roadmap.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, fostering a high-performance team culture.
  • 9+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a role leading architecture, designing consumer facing products and building systems.
  • Strong proficiency in backend development, distributed systems, and large-scale data pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with data processing frameworks.
  • Deep knowledge of building and scaling real-time, high-throughput systems.
  • Experience working on consumer-grade applications with a focus on intuitive user experiences.
  • Strong analytical and debugging skills with a passion for solving complex technical challenges.
  • Ability to convey technical concepts to both engineering and non-engineering audiences effectively.

The Variable Compensation team is dedicated to developing a groundbreaking 0-to-1 product that enables companies to compensate their employees based on performance and target achievements. This consumer-facing product aims to revolutionize how businesses manage performance-based pay, providing a seamless and intuitive experience for both employers and employees.

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and highly experienced Staff Software Engineer to join our Variable Compensation team. As a foundational member of the team, you will be responsible for designing, building, and scaling a first-of-its-kind compensation product. You will work on complex data pipelines, large-scale distributed systems, and cutting-edge performance analytics. Your work will have a direct impact on shaping how businesses pay their employees based on performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Architecture and Development: Design and implement scalable, high-performance systems to process large-scale compensation data and performance metrics.
  • Own Data Pipelines: Architect and build efficient, real-time data pipelines that ensure accurate, timely, and secure compensation calculations.
  • Scale Distributed Systems: Develop and optimize distributed systems that handle high-throughput data processing and analytics.
  • Drive Technical Excellence: Set best practices for code quality, security, and system reliability.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with Product, Design, and other Engineering teams to define and execute on the product roadmap.
  • Mentor and Influence: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, fostering a high-performance team culture.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 9+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a role leading architecture, designing consumer facing products and building systems.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong proficiency in backend development, distributed systems, and large-scale data pipelines.
  • Data Pipeline Experience: Hands-on experience with data processing frameworks
  • Scalability and Performance: Deep knowledge of building and scaling real-time, high-throughput systems.
  • Consumer-Facing Product Development: Experience working on consumer-grade applications with a focus on intuitive user experiences.
