This role will be central in directing cinematic sequences for our game, combining the principles of film with the interactive potential of gaming. Experience in animation for storytelling is a plus but not a requirement.

Our Cinematics Team

Our Cinematics Team is a multidisciplinary group responsible for crafting compelling, real-time scripted sequences that capture and enhance the emotional depth of the story. This team collaborates closely with Narrative, Art, and Gameplay departments to deliver immersive, high-quality cinematics that resonate with players.

What You Will Do

As a Cinematic Director, you will:

  • Lead the development of cinematic sequences from concept through final integration, ensuring they align with the overall story vision and gameplay experience.
  • Direct the visual style, pacing, and performance in cinematic scenes, working with animators, artists, and narrative designers.
  • Oversee the production pipeline for cinematic sequences, working closely with the Animation and Technical teams to troubleshoot and maintain high-quality output.
  • Provide direction on camera movement, composition, lighting, and character performance to create emotionally impactful scenes.
  • Mentor and guide the Cinematics Team, helping to establish best practices and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Participate in and direct motion capture sessions when needed, providing clear guidance on performance, timing, and physicality.

Who You Are

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • Have at least 8+ years of experience in cinematic direction within TV, film, or high-quality game production.
  • Possess a strong understanding of cinematic storytelling, character performance, and visual composition.
  • Have experience with motion capture direction and are comfortable guiding actors and animators in performance-driven scenes.
  • Bring expert knowledge of camera work, lighting, and editing as applied to storytelling.
  • Familiar with industry-standard software like Maya, MotionBuilder, or similar tools, and ideally have experience with game engines.
  • Are a clear communicator, collaborative leader, and possess a proven ability to guide a team creatively and technically.

Plusses

  • Background in animation for cinematic storytelling or experience with real-time game cinematics.
  • Knowledge of game production pipelines, with experience in integrating assets into game engines.
  • Strong understanding of editing for both pacing and visual continuity.

About The Company

As one of Europe's leading game development studios, Guerrilla has continually pushed the boundaries of technical and artistic excellence since its inception in 2003. Today, the studio employs 400 professionals from 25 different nationalities. Guerrilla’s state-of-the-art offices are located in the cultural and historical heart of Amsterdam, The Netherlands — a great place to work and play.

Guerrilla was founded as the result of a merger between three smaller Dutch studios: Lost Boys Games, Orange Games and Digital Infinity. In 2005, it was acquired by Sony Interactive Entertainment after the release of Killzone on PlayStation 2. In the decade that followed, Guerrilla expanded Killzone into a successful franchise with a handheld spin-off and three sequels.

Guerrilla's next title, released for PlayStation 4 in 2017 and for PC in 2020, is the critically and popularly acclaimed open world action-RPG Horizon Zero Dawn. The studio released its sequel Horizon Forbidden West in February 2022, with the Burning Shores expansion in 2023. This year, Guerrilla also released the PSVR2 title, Horizon Call of the Mountain.
