Job Description

GoFundMe's Payments engineering team seeks a Staff Software Engineer to design and implement a next-generation payments infrastructure handling billions of dollars in transactions. Responsibilities include refining a multi-year payments strategy, designing and implementing payment solutions end-to-end, collaborating with various teams and external partners, mentoring junior developers, and improving the codebase. The ideal candidate possesses deep expertise in payment systems (Checkout/Payment methods, Payouts, Ledgering, Reconciliation, Interchange, KYC/Onboarding), experience architecting scalable services, project leadership skills, and proficiency in performance problem analysis. The role involves significant impact on GoFundMe's products, users, and the causes they support.

At GoFundMe, we are expanding our Payments engineering team with a mission to revolutionize how payments work at scale. We are seeking a highly motivated software engineer to help us build and scale a next-generation payments infrastructure capable of handling billions of dollars in transactions, empowering millions of people to create meaningful change in the world.

Candidates considered for this role will be located in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The Job…

  • You'll refine and execute our multi-year payments strategy to grow giving through innovative use cases, and bring more of our core payments capabilities in-house.
  • You'll design and implement the end-to-end product lifecycle for payment solutions, from ideation to launch and iteration
  • You’ll collaborate with engineers, product management, designers, and external partners to design and implement the next-generation payments infrastructure for GoFundMe, creating impact in service of our customers, mission, and business.
  • You’ll mentor junior developers through chat and pair programming, and advocate for improvements to the codebase, providing leadership to others within your team.

You…

  • You are a seasoned engineer with deep expertise in payment systems with a track record of building and shipping impactful features. 8+ years of relevant experience in some or many of the following areas: Checkout/Payment methods, Payouts, Ledgering, Reconciliation, Interchange, KYC/Onboarding.
  • You have experience architecting services and systems using well-accepted design patterns to enable future scaling. You anticipate future use cases and make design decisions that minimize the cost of future change.
  • You are skilled at leading projects from conception to completion, ensuring timely delivery by balancing technical trade-offs and business needs, communicating progress and challenges to stakeholders, and ensuring teams stay aligned with project goals.
  • You have strong experience in analyzing, diagnosing, and preventing performance problems, with expertise in application performance monitoring and log analytics tools like New Relic and Sumo Logic.

The total annual salary for this full-time position is $185,000 - $250,000 + equity + benefits.  The salary range was determined by role, level, and possible location across the US. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
