Purpose of the Role

The Area Portfolio Manager – Product & Solutions is responsible for overseeing the development and management of products and solutions within the Greater China Area (GCA) from a lifecycle perspective. This role includes creating and implementing a comprehensive lifecycle management framework that governs the rationale for launching products and solutions, the process of bringing them to market, monitoring their performance, and determining the appropriate time and steps for discontinuation.

Key Responsibility

Design: Product & Solution Lifecycle Management Framework

  • Develop a comprehensive framework for the entire product and solution lifecycle, from the "Discovery & Assessment" phase (evaluating the need for a product/solution) to the end-of-life or sunsetting phase within GCA.
  • Lead the deployment of this framework and ensure regular reviews are conducted to assess products and solutions at various stages of development. Determine when products/solutions should advance through stages to all L&S products.

 Governance: Health and Maturity Assessment

  • Establish metrics beyond financials (e.g., customer & verticals density, job closure rates) to evaluate the health and maturity of products and solutions.
  • Design and execute a regular review cadence, producing reports that provide an overview of the health and maturity of each product and solution within the portfolio.
  • Collaborate with relevant product managers to address issues related to the health and maturity of solutions and products.
  • Analyze the current product/solution mix and develop scenarios to optimize the mix across Maersk L&S activities in Greater China, ensuring alignment with 2024 targets.

Development: Product & Solution Development Support (Applicable when solution is involved)

  • Given the emerging focus on solution development within the organization, provide support in developing solutions. This includes defining operational and process requirements and coordinating with necessary functions to create or amend processes to support solution delivery.

Required Competencies

  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years in product management within the 3PL and shipping industry, preferably with a deep understanding of Maersk's internal structure, dynamics, and the complexities between Ocean and Logistics segments.
  • Project Management: Experience in cross-functional project management, particularly in conducting reviews and managing cadences.
  • Entrepreneurial Mindset: Proven ability to take initiatives from concept to execution, with a strong track record in sales and implementation of new product launches. Demonstrated resilience and adaptability in navigating through change and uncertainty.
  • Strategic Thinking: Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to challenge the status quo and provide well-reasoned recommendations.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated success in both direct and indirect leadership roles.
  • Stakeholder Management: Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to drive cross-functional teams to action.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluent in English, with excellent storytelling capabilities in a business context.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Visio, etc.).
