Wabtec Corporation is seeking a DevOps Engineer to provide technical expertise and leadership in DevOps methodology, including Kubernetes, Docker, SDLC, CI/CD, Cloud, Microservice Design, Agile Software Development, Application Profiling, Monitoring & Observability, and SRE response for their Digital Electronics software vertical. The role involves supporting and improving tooling for continuous build, automated testing, and release management, building and running workloads on Kubernetes using Docker, and leveraging cloud tooling best practices (AWS preferred). Responsibilities include making technology choices at the individual product level, analyzing and measuring impact, profiling build processes, scripting for task automation, implementing Continuous Integration/Deployment principles, providing expertise in quality engineering and test planning, and helping businesses deploy code. The role also requires building and maintaining documentation for build processes and product configurations, and participating in hiring efforts. Must have:
  • 5+ years professional technical experience
  • 4+ years Linux experience
  • 4+ years CI/CD experience
  • 3+ years Docker experience
  • 2+ years Kubernetes experience
  • 2+ years Python, Shell, or Bash scripting experience
Good to have:
  • Experience with Ansible, Helm, Kustomize, Terraform or Gitlab
  • Expertise in full docker container lifecycle

In this role, you will provide an essential part of the DevOps workflow for critical product teams to provide technical expertise and leadership in DevOps methodology including; Kubernetes, Docker, SDLC, CI/CD, Cloud, Microservice Design, Agile Software Development, Application Profiling, Monitoring & Observability, and SRE response for our Digital Electronics software vertical. Your technical choices will create a pattern for other groups and products to model for implementation of best practices and ensure a comprehensive and complete DevOps methodology for the business. The contributions made on an individual level will greatly impact the DevOps strategy for the Wabtec business.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Support and improve tooling for continuous build, automated testing and release management
  • Ability to build, maintain, and run workloads on Kubernetes orchestration systems using docker
  • Knowledge and practical experience of cloud tooling and best practices (AWS preferred)
  • Make technology choices at an individual product level and has the ability to analyze and measure impact
  • Profile build processes and identify bottlenecks
  • Demonstrate expertise in writing scripts to automate tasks
  • Implements Continuous Integration/Deployment build principles
  • Provide expertise in quality engineering, test planning and testing methodology for a software project
  • Help businesses develop an overall strategy for deploying code
  • Be an expert at applying principles of SDLC and agile methodologies
  • Build and maintain documentation related to build processes and product environmental configurations
  • Supervisory Responsibilities
    • Participate in hiring and recruitment efforts, including interviews for employees in the DevOps Architecture department.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Degree Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree
  • Professional Technical Experience: 5+ Years
  • Linux Experience: 4+ Years
  • CI/CD Experience: 4+ Years
  • Docker Experience: 3+ Years
  • Kubernetes Experience: 2+ Years
  • Python, Shell, or Bash Scripting Experience: 2+ Years

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with creating and maintaining automated build and configuration management tools (Ansible, Helm, Kustomize, Terraform or Gitlab preferred)
  • Expertise in full docker container lifecycle from Dockerfile best practices to Kubernetes pod execution
  • Proposes new solutions for CI/CD based on research and synthesis of best practices
  • Able to balance value propositions of modern tools and integration in product teams for attributable business value
  • Has a strong understanding of the TCO of a product and is sensitive to tool selection and integration to keep costs low
  • Influences through others and can create a coalition of support for new and modifications to current processes
  • Taps upon organizational knowledge to prevent rework and rework
  • Continuously reflecting on success and failures to improve performance and decision-making
  • Able to effectively direct and mentor others in critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrates a passion and drive for self-improvement of technical skillsets
  • Proactively engages with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and design solutions using critical thinking and analysis skills and best practices
  • Proactively learns new solutions and processes to address possible blockers or problems in product teams

Work Environment:

  • The employee may be required to work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment.
