We’re seeking an experienced Principal User Interface Visual Designer to join our Star Wars team. The ideal candidate for this position has extensive experience in brand design, user interface design, and illustration, with a focus on evolving existing brand work into something new, and will be the standard bearer that sets the quality bar for the rest of our team.
Ideally you’re experienced as a principal or senior member of a UI design team and are passionate about the player experience above everything else, with a broad range of skills including typography, layout, color theory, and skeuomorphic illustration, who can embrace our game development philosophy and share your hard-earned expertise, to create an incredible experience for our players.
Please note that this is a short-term position intended for a 6-month term.
What you’ll do:
Establish a competitive, novel brand direction within the existing Star Wars Jedi visual language with a high degree of polish
Work with the Lead UX/UI Designer, Game Director, Art Director, and other departments to make sure the visual design experience meets the vision for gameplay and final execution.
Help set a high quality bar through hands-on creation of UI assets
Create initial standard-bearing mockups for game menus, HUD elements, typography, and iconography
Create both vectorized illustrations as well as skeuomorphic, textured illustrations
Motivate, and mentor UI team members. Create opportunities for challenge and growth.
Inspire the entire department to constantly raise the quality bar, develop solutions, and collaborate effectively.
Actively self-critique and accept outside critique. The more feedback you receive, the more you can tailor your work towards what is best for the game.
Ideally, you will have:
7+ years' experience as a Senior UI Designer, Visual Designer or Graphic Designer. Shipped AAA game/s preferred but open to relevant level of experience outside of games.
Experience leading others by example, in both quality of work and professional conduct.
Experience working with a game engine and the constraints of implementing UI artwork into the pipeline.
Experience with the visual language of Star Wars and with experience working on existing, established brands and/or intellectual properties.
A comprehensive portfolio showcasing your work. Portfolio should show quality, taste, and an eye for modern, innovative, and aesthetically appealing graphic design work.
Specific portfolio examples that showcase star charts, navigational charts, and/or sacred geometry.
Proficiency in designing menus, user interfaces, icons, and other visual displays for games, movies, or websites.
Mastery of relevant vector and raster tools (e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator)
Can produce high quality artwork with little supervision.
Passion for making and playing games.
US COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The base salary ranges listed below are for the defined geographic market pay zones in these states. If you reside outside of these locations, a recruiter will advise on the base salary range and benefits for your specific location. EA has listed the base salary ranges it in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in the locations listed, as of the time of this posting. Salary offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.
BASE SALARY RANGES
California (depending on location e.g. Los Angeles vs. Sacramento): º $161,100 - $239,700 USD Annually
New York (depending on location e.g. Manhattan vs. Buffalo): º $142,900 - $239,700 USD Annually
Jersey City, NJ : º $187,400 - $239,700 USD Annually
Colorado (depending on location e.g. Denver vs. Colorado Springs): º $153,100 - $206,200 USD Annually
Washington (depending on location e.g. Seattle vs. Spokane): º $142,900 - $230,000 USD Annually
Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at EA. We also offer a package of benefits including paid time off (3 weeks per year to start), 80 hours per year of sick time, 16 paid company holidays per year, 10 weeks paid time off to bond with baby, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
