The Windows Connected Experiences team at Microsoft seeks a Senior Software Engineer to enhance their products' scale, reliability, and user engagement. This role focuses on connected experiences like Phone Link, contributing to services and connectivity for millions of Windows users. Responsibilities include device pairing, cross-device communication (protocol design and implementation), security, authentication, and cloud/mobile OS integration. The ideal candidate will collaborate with stakeholders, develop design documents, implement and optimize code, and act as a DRI for service monitoring and restoration. They will also proactively adapt to new technologies and patterns to improve product performance and scalability.
Must have:

Overview

Senior Software Engineer -The Windows Connected Experiences team

 

The Windows Connected Experiences team is looking for a highly motivated and innovative Senior Software Engineer to break new ground as we take our products to orders of magnitude higher scale and rock-solid reliability, build out the intelligence capabilities to dramatically deepen user engagement and create a great cross-device experience.  The team is responsible for connected experiences including Phone Link which enable PC users to access capabilities from their Android and iOS phones. 

 

As part of the platform team, you will contribute to the services and connectivity fabric powering connected experiences for millions of Windows users.   This position will be responsible for areas related to device pairing and cross device communication including protocol design and implementation, security and authentication and integration with cloud services and mobile operating systems.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience building applications and services in the cloud.
  • Demonstrated experience with application security assessment.
  •  

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise with Mobile Operating Systems (Android, iOS)
  • Ability to communicate technical details clearly across organizational boundaries.
  • Experience in DevOps to maintain live services and\or application frameworks. 
  • Azure cloud experience highly desirable.
  • Analytical skills with systematic and structured approach to software design.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a scenario.
  • Drives identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
  • Creates, implements, optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to establish and improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
  • Leverages subject-matter expertise of product features and partners with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) to drive a workgroup's project plans, release plans, and work items.
  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guides other engineers by developing and following the playbook, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, alerting stakeholders about status and initiates actions to restore system/product/service for simple and complex problems when appropriate.
  • Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
