We are looking for a passionate and experienced Senior Technical Director to join Rovio’s Puzzle Studio. As the leader of the technology craft (including QA) within the Puzzle Business Unit, you will be responsible for crafting and driving the studio’s short and long-term technical strategy. This role requires strong leadership to drive technical planning and decision-making, while encouraging a growth mindset and a bold, efficient culture.

You will play a key role in developing the craft and creating an environment that improves the potential of our dedicated team. As a Senior Technical Director, your impact will go beyond technology; you will be an integral part of the leadership team, contributing to the studio’s overall success.

This role cannot be fully remote and requires relocation to Finland. We offer relocation support to assist with the process.

You will have impact and fun at work by doing:

    • Collaborate closely with Game Leads and Producers to ensure studio resources are effectively aligned with project goals.
    • Lead the studio’s technology strategy and execution, setting guidelines and conventions that drive consistent software development practices.
    • Take ownership of building and maintaining an efficient technology organization that enhances studio performance.
    • Champion a high-performance culture by setting goals, guiding team members, and coaching them toward excellence.
    • Actively encourage and empower your team to achieve their best while driving the studio toward organisational success.
    • Develop and implement the career framework for the technology craft, supporting the growth and potential of team members.
    • Be responsible for recruitment for key technical roles, ensuring the studio attracts top talent.
    • Ensure the adaptability and reliability of the studio’s technical solutions to meet both current and future needs.
    • Work with Technical Managers and the QA Director to refine processes, improve workflows, and enhance services within the studio.
    • Effectively communicate with internal teams and third-party providers to keep everyone aligned and advised.
    • Handle relationships with third-party technology and service providers to support studio operations.
    • Serve as a technical advisor, offering mentorship and support for projects whenever challenges arise.

Experience and skills we are looking for:

    • Proven leadership and team management skills, serving as a strong role model for others.
    • Solid understanding of the business aspects of software development, including how technical decisions impact project success.
    • Solid foundation in programming principles and theoretical knowledge.
    • Broad expertise in game and server architecture, as well as related technologies.
    • Proficiency with software development tools, methodologies, and standard processes.
    • Deep understanding of the phases of game development and the technical solutions required at each stage.
    • Expertise in designing and maintaining reusable systems and components across multiple teams.
    • Solid grasp of unit testing, automation testing practices, and their application in game development.
    • Ability to optimally lead and inspire teams, motivating them toward high performance.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to solve sophisticated technical challenges.
    • Capable of prioritizing tasks and maintaining focus in a dynamic work environment.
    • Ability to remain composed under pressure and make tough decisions when necessary.
    • Superb communication skills, with a focus on clear, collaborative interactions.
    • A coaching attitude, committed to developing and supporting the growth of others.
    • Passion for Free-to-Play (F2P) casual puzzle mobile games.
