We are looking for a new Lead Level Designer to join the Angry Birds Friends (ABF) team. Our vision is to innovate within the puzzle category by creating games that bring joy and delight to players.

In this role, you’ll bring a fresh perspective and new ideas to elevate the Core experience (levels) to the next level. As a key member of the team, you'll analyze the current strengths and weaknesses of the Core and lead key initiatives to enhance the game's success.

We’re looking for someone who shares our passion for advancing puzzle gaming by delivering deeper, more engaging gameplay experiences. To do that, you should be eager to understand core game logic, level mechanics, player feedback, level design philosophies, and the player journey both within individual levels and across the level funnel.

This position can be based in Espoo, Finland, or Barcelona, Spain. We follow a hybrid work model with two on-site days per week. Not currently in Finland or Spain? No problem, we offer relocation support.

You will have impact and fun at work by doing:

    • Contributing as a key member of the level design team, creating engaging and challenging levels through strong understanding of core game logic, level mechanics, player feedback, design philosophies, and player journey across the level funnel.
    • Leading the curation of new and existing levels, ensuring ongoing maintenance and performance improvements.
    • Collaborating with the Design Director, Product Managers, Producers, and other stakeholders to plan, delegate, and prioritize level and core game design tasks.
    • Advising the LiveOps team on A/B tests related to level content and core gameplay-adjacent features to drive growth, and leading the level team in adapting to live events when needed.
    • Guiding and mentoring fellow designers to ensure a cohesive player experience and supporting their development.
    • Initiating collaboration with other studio teams to promote shared learning and innovation.

Experience and skills we are looking for:

    • About 7–9 years of commercial experience and proven success in mobile F2P games, including around 5 years of building levels for a mobile game.
    • Experience from both live game operations and developing a game from scratch is a plus.
    • Proven experience in leading and mentoring other designers.
    • Ownership of at least one area of a game; some experience as a Lead Designer is a plus.
    • Skilled in designing and executing level design philosophies and processes.
    • Comfortable working closely with BI to interpret data, and able to create and communicate plans to improve KPIs.
We welcome applicants to use the name they want to be addressed by in the application form, regardless of whether it is their legal name.

At Rovio, we are also committed to providing reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities or conditions in our working environment and job application procedures. We are committed to continuously improving workplace accessibility. If you have any questions before applying, please write to us at recruitment@rovio.com.
