Job Description

As a valued member of the Total Rewards Team, the Senior Director, Benefits & Wellbeing at Mattel is primarily responsible for strategy, design, communications, administration and compliance of Mattel’s global benefit and wellbeing programs, policies and processes. You will ensure the benefit and wellbeing programs at Mattel enhance our ability to attract and retain top talent by providing functional expertise to deliver HR initiatives that support and foster a high-performance, inclusive culture. Key responsibilities include providing strategic vision and operational excellence in oversight of global benefits, reviewing and administering global benefits programs, recommending modifications including improvement initiatives and plans which support Mattel’s strategy, overseeing U.S. benefits activities, driving effective communication of benefit strategies and programs, ensuring compliance with all benefit programs in accordance with location specific regulatory and legislative requirements, maintaining and monitoring audit controls over all benefits programs, establishing and monitoring budgets, preparing financial reports, managing strong cross-functional relationships, coaching, mentoring, motivating and supervising team members, and being a champion for innovation in the benefit and wellbeing space.
Must have:
  • Experience in design and implementation of benefits and wellbeing programs across multiple geographies

  • Strong relationship skills working with external vendors, consultants, benefits administration providers, actuaries, and auditors
  • Proven, influential leadership skills

The Opportunity: 

As a valuable member of the Total Rewards Team, the Senior Director, Benefits & Wellbeing at Mattel is primarily responsible for strategy, design, communications, administration and compliance of Mattel’s global benefit and wellbeing programs, policies and processes.

The ideal candidate will ensure the benefit and wellbeing programs at Mattel enhance our ability to attract and retain top talent by providing functional expertise to deliver HR initiatives that support and foster a high-performance, inclusive culture.

What Your Impact Will Be: 

  • Provide strategic vision and operational excellence in oversight of global benefits (multiple countries across North America, LATAM, EMEA and APAC)
  • Review and administer global benefits programs, recommend modifications including improvement initiatives and plans which support Mattel’s strategy; set-up benefit programs in new countries as needed.
  • Oversee U.S. benefits activities, including benefit health, wellbeing, welfare, defined contribution plans, including vendors, program financials and policies.
  • Drive effective communication of benefit strategies and programs.
  • Ensure compliance with all benefit programs in accordance with location specific regulatory and legislative requirements, specifically in the U.S. with provisions of ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, ACA and other local regulatory and legislative requirements; coordinates preparation of filings – specifically in the U.S. with federal and state agencies, including IRS and DOL and other regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain and monitor audit controls over all benefits programs.
  • Establish and monitor budgets. Prepare financial reports to provide to leaders with understanding of benefit costs and trends to support efficient and effective delivery of benefit programs.
  • Monitor administrative costs and pricing of benefit programs and recommend cost containment strategies, including alternate methods of administration.
  • Manage strong cross-functional relationships with payroll, finance, legal, compliance, facilities, communications, IT and other HR teams, and also external partners and vendors.
  • Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise team members and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.
  • Be a champion for innovation in the benefit and wellbeing space. Know what best in class, progressive companies are doing and look to integrate best practices into the Mattel processes.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience in design and implementation of benefits and wellbeing programs across multiple geographies
  • Technical knowledge of benefits design (health & welfare, 401(k), deferred compensation, pension, corporate-owned life insurance, post-retirement benefits, etc.)
  • Strong relationship skills working with external vendors, consultants, benefits administration providers, actuaries, and auditors
  • Proven, influential leadership skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders; consultative and collaborative style that allows for influence without authority
  • Ability to operate in a face-paced environment with competing priorities
  • Flexible and comfortable to roll-up your sleeves, accustomed to being hands-on
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills – both oral and written. 
  • Demonstrated a growth mindset by staying curious and continuously learning, embracing challenges, and improving themselves.
