Sr. Software Engineer

Onward Search is a specialized staffing and talent solutions company that helps professionals find top jobs with the nation’s leading brands. We’re looking to hire a Sr. Software Engineer for an Entertainment client.

This is a 6+ month contract opportunity. The role is located in any hub (LA, NY, Seattle, Orlando) and all candidate needs to be local to a hub and prepared to be in office 4x's per week. 

Software Engineer – Growth & Commerce Platform

As a Software Engineer, you will be part of a team focused on modernizing and enhancing platform capabilities for commerce systems. This team is responsible for building a platform layer that exposes commerce functionalities to front-end device clients (Web, mobile, living room devices) and service partners such as customer service platforms. The primary goal is to abstract commerce domains from client teams and centralize Growth & Commerce Platform capabilities into a shared layer, enabling faster feature delivery by decoupling core commerce systems.

Responsibilities:

• Work closely with Product and Business teams to understand business needs and user flows related to sign-up and account management.
• Design and develop a future-proof API layer that exposes commerce lifecycle platform capabilities to various clients.
• Review and develop robust API contracts and scalable microservices for internal clients.
• Assist in creating technical proposals to illustrate high-level designs and system flows between clients and backend systems.
• Understand key dependencies, including subscription, billing, and payment systems, and their impact on clients.
• Contribute to the full software development lifecycle: design, build, code review, test, load test, launch, and measure performance.
• Collaborate with Product teams to translate requirements into well-defined technical implementations.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field.
• 4+ years of relevant software engineering experience.
• Strong code design and architectural skills.
• API design experience, including authoring and reviewing API contracts.
• Strong programming experience in Java for server-side development.
• Experience working with scalable, high-throughput systems.
• Familiarity with SQL.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Spinnaker and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of Spring WebFlux or Reactive programming in Java.
• Experience with GraphQL (implementation and integration).
• Familiarity with gRPC.
• Experience with AWS and Terraform.

To qualify for our benefits package, you must work over 30 hours per week and the length of assignment must be a minimum of 10 weeks.
