The Commerce, Growth & Identity (CGI) team at Disney seeks a Senior Software Engineer to design and implement tier-1 microservices in Java, build asynchronous cloud processes for data transformation, and contribute to tech design for various initiatives. Responsibilities include code and architecture reviews, Agile participation, on-call support, and end-to-end project delivery. The role involves working with multi-functional partners, ramping up on new technologies, and contributing to the international expansion of Disney's streaming services. The team focuses on customer flow orchestration, integrating with backend services for Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu signups, and supporting highly available services.

The Commerce, Growth & Identity (CGI) team is dedicated to three business-critical areas at Disney that will help transform its media business. They create seamless user experiences for consumers who can choose from a wide range of subscription plans, enabling more choice and flexibility. The CGI team is also focused on building innovative and cutting-edge capabilities that will drive subscriptions, engagement, and monetization across Disney’s streaming and digital products.

We are looking for a motivated Senior Software Engineer to join the Growth and Commerce Engineering team. The Growth and Commerce engineering group is responsible for orchestrating the customer flow and integrating with various other backend services during signups for Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu. We own and support many tier-1 services that need to be highly available in all regions.

We are a fast-paced and fast-growing team, where you will have influence over the technical direction and architecture for the services and tools built by the team. You will also have an opportunity to learn about the international landscape and challenges in the area of billing, payments, subscriptions, offers, and promotions as our streaming services launch around the world over the next few years.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement tier-1 microservices in Java.

  • Implement asynchronous processes to run in the cloud for various data transformation operations.

  • Work on tech design for various initiatives and projects as per business needs.

  • Be involved in code reviews and architecture reviews for team members.

  • Participate in Agile methodology and SCRUM processes such as Sprint Planning, Backlog grooming, Daily Standups, and Retrospectives with the team.

  • Provide on-call support for critical services on a rotational basis.

  • Own features/functionality and deliver projects end-to-end with high quality and robust architecture.

  • Communicate and work with multi-functional business partners.

  • Ramp up on new domains and technologies.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of related work experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience.

  • Experience in backend server-side development.

  • Knowledge of at least one object-oriented language.

  • Experience working with cloud providers.

  • Familiarity with databases (SQL and no-SQL).

  • Experience investigating technical components and taking ownership of feature development.

The hiring range for this position in Seattle, WA is $145,400 to $195,000 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
