Job Description

The Staff Global Technical Training & Development Scientist (Bioinformatics) will be responsible for designing and delivering training programs for internal support staff and customers on next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis software. This includes developing technical courses, online learning programs, and evaluating training effectiveness. Responsibilities include leading training sessions, creating training materials, staying up-to-date with technological advancements, and contributing to a world-class customer support organization. They will also collaborate with internal experts, conduct needs analyses, and prepare training strategies. The role involves technical presentations, demonstrations, exercises, and assessments, continuously updating course materials, and improving key company processes.

Position Summary:
Seeking an expert in NGS bioinformatics who is energized by sharing knowledge and best practice. With a focus on customer experience, the candidate will assess the performance needs of internal support staff and customers and design, develop, and implement instructional solutions that enhance their ability to use our leading-edge data analysis software solutions. Develop technical courses, contribute to on-line learning programs, and evaluate the effectiveness of instructional programs. Collaborate closely with internal experts to acquire technical guidance and best practice know-how and continuously update training curricula. 


Responsibilities:

  • Serve as lead instructor for new product training and conduct train the trainer sessions to certify regional instructors
  • Represent Commercial Training on new product implementation teams and prepare global training strategy and plan
  • Conduct needs analyses for target audiences that deal with secondary and tertiary data analysis software, and troubleshooting best practices associated with Illumina’s next-generation sequencing products
  • Design and develop training materials for NGS data analysis, including multiomics applications, advanced data analysis, and local server-based and cloud-hosted solutions
  • Develop instructor-led training courses for internal and external customers that include technical presentations, demonstrations, exercises, technical Q&A sessions, and assessments
  • Prepare for technical training courses by acquiring necessary supplies, setting-up support equipment, and coordinating prerequisite tasks with prospective participants
  • Continuously update course materials to keep pace with rapidly evolving technology and products
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training activities and implement improvement measures as appropriate based on findings/feedback
  • Develop and improve key company processes that support our mission of building a world-class customer support organization

Requirements:

  • Prior experience with DNA sequencing technologies,
  • Experience creating presentations or instructional materials such as PowerPoint
  • Strong organization skills, including ability to rapidly balance priorities in a fast-paced environment,
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively in a highly matrixed global organization,
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills,
  • Clear vision of and commitment to providing outstanding customer service,
  • PhD or M.S. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, or Genetics required + 3 years technical work and/or technical training experience or B.S. + 5 years technical work and/or technical training experience.

The estimated base salary range for the Staff Global Technical Training & Development Scientist (Bioinformatics) role based in the United States of America is: $115,800 - $173,800. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
