Job Description

As a Tools & Automation Programmer, you'll design, implement, and maintain tools and automation systems to enhance developer, designer, and artist workflows. Responsibilities include creating and maintaining custom tools for game development pipelines (asset management, testing frameworks), developing automation solutions for build processes, testing, and content deployment, collaborating with teams to identify and address production bottlenecks, and providing comprehensive documentation. You'll work closely with artists, designers, and engineers, troubleshooting technical issues to minimize downtime. The role requires proficiency in Python, C#, or C++, Unreal Engine experience, knowledge of build systems and CI/CD, and experience with version control systems.

The Role:

As a Tools & Automation Programmer, you will design, implement, and maintain tools and automation systems that empower our developers, designers, and artists to focus on their creative and technical work. Your contributions will directly impact the efficiency and quality of our development cycle, ensuring that Red Rover Interactive remains at the forefront of game innovation.

  • Create, maintain, and enhance custom tools for game development pipelines, including asset management, and testing frameworks.
  • Develop automation solutions to improve build processes, testing, and content deployment workflows.
  • Collaborate with teams to identify bottlenecks in production workflows and develop tools to streamline processes.
  • Work closely with artists, designers, and engineers to understand their needs and deliver intuitive, efficient tools.
  • Provide clear and comprehensive documentation for tools and systems to ensure their usability and maintainability.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in tools and pipelines promptly to minimize downtime.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Strong proficiency in languages like Python, C#, or C++.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine, including scripting tools and asset pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with build systems, continuous integration (CI/CD), or automated testing frameworks.
  • Proficiency in version control systems like Git, Perforce, or similar.
  • Experience managing OS such as Windows and Linux, and batch scripting.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a passion for streamlining complex workflows.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.

In addition, we expect you to have:

  • 2+ years of experience working as a tools programmer within the video games industry.
  • Knowledge of networking principles for multiplayer game automation would be beneficial.
  • A degree within a related field is preferred
