Brightline is seeking an Unreal Engine Developer to support the development and optimization of immersive, multi-user experiences on our spatial computing platform. Working closely under our Senior Unreal Developer Lead, you’ll contribute to creating seamless, secure, and performant VR environments. This role offers hands-on experience in Unreal Engine development, with the opportunity to deepen your skills in networking, performance optimization, and collaborative game development.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and Optimize Gameplay Mechanics: Assist in developing gameplay mechanics and systems using Unreal Engine Blueprints and C++ for VR applications.
- Collaborate on Multi-User Experiences: Work with designers, artists, and developers to implement networked features within VR environments.
- Performance Profiling and Optimization: Support performance profiling and optimization tasks to ensure responsive and efficient gameplay.
- Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Assist in troubleshooting technical issues related to networking, pixel streaming, and general performance.
- Learn and Apply Best Practices: Work under the guidance of the Senior Unreal Developer Lead to develop skills in VR, spatial computing, and multiplayer networking.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Proficiency with Unreal Engine Blueprints and C++: Foundational knowledge and hands-on experience with Unreal Engine for developing gameplay mechanics.
- Basic Knowledge of Multiplayer Networking in Unreal Engine: Some experience or understanding of networking principles for multiplayer environments is preferred.
- Collaboration and Communication Skills: Ability to work effectively within a team, sharing ideas and providing feedback.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Proactive in identifying and troubleshooting technical issues.
- Willingness to Learn: Eagerness to build skills and stay updated on VR and Unreal Engine trends, with guidance from senior developers.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience with Custom Unreal Engine Builds: Any exposure to building and configuring Unreal Engine from source is a plus.
- Experience working on non-gaming projects using Unreal Engine, ideally government or defense projects.
- Understanding of VR Design Principles: Awareness of VR-specific UI/UX design principles and considerations.
- Multi-Platform Development: Experience or interest in creating experiences that work across VR, mobile, and PC platforms.
- Interest in AI and Machine Learning: Familiarity or curiosity about AI/ML applications for VR, such as procedural generation or NPC behavior.
