Gearbox Studio is seeking a Senior Technical Artist to join their team. This role requires a self-driven professional with extensive experience in AAA game development and a deep understanding of Unreal Engine 5. As a generalist, you will bridge the gap between engineering and art teams, designing and developing the art pipeline. Responsibilities include designing, building, and maintaining the pipeline, collaborating with artists and engineers, developing tools in Unreal Engine 5, optimizing assets and environments, identifying and resolving technical issues, and producing documentation and training materials.
Must have:
  • 7+ years AAA game dev experience
  • Unreal Engine 5 expertise
  • Blueprint scripting, shader development
  • Environment creation
  • Independent work, task prioritization
  • Strong communication skills
  • Asset optimization experience
Good to have:
  • Maya, 3ds Max, Substance Painter

Ce rôle nécessite un.e professionnel.le autonome et motivé.e qui devra concevoir et mener à bien la conception et le développement de notre pipeline.

RESPONSABILITÉS  

  • Concevoir, construire et maintenir un pipeline de production artistique complet adapté aux besoins de notre projet dans Unreal Engine 5. 
  • Collaborer étroitement avec les artistes et les ingénieurs pour optimiser les flux de travail, améliorer l'efficacité et faciliter la collaboration entre les départements. 
  • Développer et maintenir des outils dans Unreal Engine 5 pour soutenir les besoins de l'équipe artistique, de la création de shaders aux outils de gestion des ressources. 
  • S'assurer que les ressources et les environnements répondent aux exigences de performance ; optimiser les shaders, les matériaux et les ressources pour une qualité visuelle optimale tout en respectant les contraintes de performance. 
  • Identifier et résoudre les problèmes techniques, en proposant des solutions qui respectent la direction artistique et les exigences du jeu. 
  • Produire une documentation claire et des supports de formation pour les outils et les flux de travail et guider l'équipe artistique sur les meilleures pratiques. 


COMPÉTENCES REQUISES  

  • Minimum de 7 ans d'expérience dans le développement de jeux AAA avec un portfolio solide, présentant des projets de haute qualité. 
  • Expérience approfondie avec Unreal Engine 5, avec de solides compétences techniques en scripting blueprint, développement de shaders et création d'environnements.  
  • Capacité à travailler de manière autonome, à prioriser les tâches et à assumer la responsabilité du pipeline artistique technique. 
  • Excellentes compétences en communication pour collaborer efficacement entre les équipes d'art et d'ingénierie. 
  • Expérience étendue dans l'optimisation des assets 3D, shaders et environnements pour une performance maximale sans compromettre la qualité. 

  

COMPÉTENCES DÉSIRÉES  

  • Familiarité avec des logiciels tels que Maya, 3ds Max ou Substance Painter. 
  • Expérience avec Unreal Engine 5, incluant par exemple Lumen, Nanite, Niagara et Blueprints. 
  • Connaissance d'un ou plusieurs langages de programmation (C#, C++, Python, HLSL, GLSL).

Gearbox Studio, the game developer of successful titles such as Borderlands, Brothers In Arms, and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, is looking for an experienced Senior Technical Artist to join our team. As a generalist with extensive experience in AAA game development and a deep understanding of Unreal Engine 5, you’ll play a critical role in bridging the gap between our engineering and art teams.  

 

This role requires a self-driven, autonomous professional to lead the design and development of our pipeline.

 RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Design, build, and maintain a comprehensive art production pipeline tailored to our project’s needs in Unreal Engine 5 
  • Collaborate closely with both artists and engineers to streamline workflows, improving efficiency and enabling cross-department collaboration.   
  • Develop and maintain tools within Unreal Engine 5 to support the art team’s needs, from shader creation to asset management tools.  
  • Ensure assets and environments meet performance requirements; optimize shaders, materials, and assets for best visual quality within performance constraints. 
  • Identify and address technical issues, providing solutions that align with both art direction and game requirements. 
  • Produce clear documentation and training materials for tools and workflows and guide the art team on best practices. 

  

REQUIRED SKILLS  

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in AAA game development with a strong portfolio showcasing high-quality projects. 
  • In-depth experience with Unreal Engine 5, with strong technical skills in blueprint scripting, shader development, and environment creation. 
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and take ownership of the technical art pipeline. 
  • Strong communication skills to effectively work between art and engineering teams. 
  • Extensive experience optimizing 3D assets, shaders, and environments for maximum performance without compromising visual quality. 

  

DESIRED SKILLS  

  • Familiarity with software such as Maya, 3ds Max, or Substance Painter. 
  • Experience with Unreal Engine 5, including, for example, Lumen, Nanite, Niagara, and Blueprints  
  • Knowledge of one or more programming languages (C#, C++, Python, HLSL, GLSL)  
  • Comfortable with one or more 3D modeling tools (Houdini, 3dsMax, Maya, Blender, ZBrush, etc.)  
  • Proficient in Houdini, Unreal PGG or any similar procedural generation tool.
